Spend money on my model!! Oooh, treasury approval required from the highest levels!!!
Spend money on paint for the house - No Problems
God help us we ever get a female chancellor!!!

Although Money has been approved for upgrades to my man cave. Including paint to 'tart' it up AND - additional purchasing of industrial grade shelving to sort out the junk. Now that will help tidy up my corner of the world. The corner my model bench sits!!!!
Since moving into this new place a couple of years ago the man cave has been the last place to enhance, instead it became the place to - Oh - just thrown it in the garage!!!! Now I am told we are top of things the 'Cave' can have a face lift. So old wooden shelves on walls are coming down, replaced by shelving racks to store all the paint, tool boxes, (of which there are many). Boxes of electrical bits, plumbing bits, plastering bits, you get the picture. The idea is to strip everything out. A good clean, a coat of masonry paint. Reinstate order from the current chaos!!!
That's the plan!!

I rarely have any spare money. If i do get some it's through my sales on evilbay. So what i get there is all i have to spend.

Mind you I reckon I'm lucky. As some may know my better half is into all things sewing and knitting. Her sewing machines, wool etc can be quite pricey so it's a case of "If she can so can I". Generally I don't have much of a problem with getting "approval" for my toys, Mrs G is pretty easy to "manipulate" it's all about how you "sell" your idea.
Now I just have to hope she doesn't read this post or I'll be on rations :smiling2:

Oh, E is easy to manipulate I choose not to try these days. Since moving into this place and nearly losing her in a very traumatic accident involving a glass shower door and her leg I kind of relent to any of her whims!!! It's moved from physical trauma to physiological. So I can accept a mere garage takes second place in the overall plan!!!
When I was working for the MoD I had a reputation for selling coals to Newcastle!! But that's another story!!

My wife is also a crafter of card making and knitting, we have enough wool in our house to knit a new flock of sheep. Happily though, my wife buys me bits and pieces including kits I wish to build. She is a wonderful supporter of my hobby

Never been a problem for me. We keep separate finances and savings, and have for forty years. I cover things like rates, utilities, mortgage (when we had one), and my car, and Sue covers things like food, household insurances, and heating oil. Hobby spending, for me models and music, for her garden and more garden, are our own responsibilities within that. Any big spends like house renovation or repair we pool our resources. It works well for us and in over forty years of mortgage we’ve never once argued about money. Mind you, she has virtually zero interest in my hobbies but I have to feign interest in the garden…….

Nah - nearest IKEA is Exeter - getting out of Dorset takes way too long this time of year - (Holiday Makers)!!!!
I sourced a company who can provide me with the correct sized units I need. No point getting some units from Ikea and them only lasting a few years!

Mrs L and I have the same kind of 'set up' as you do Tim, anything 'household is split down the middle, and everything left is mine to spend on my fancies, ( my car, models, and any other stuff I like the look of).

As opposed to my ex, who didn't work ..(got way too comfortable being a stay at home mummy....even when the kids went to school), and basically sat around at her family's houses all day long going wild on Internet shopping sites... hence nearly 15 grand of debt all 'in my name' I discovered when we separated... I agreed to 'take the debt with me and worked my ass off for the next few years to clear it...all to stop my kids suffering from it...(as she could never have afforded to pay it off).

Similar John. Neither of us has our own money it’s all ‘ours’ hence why everything is discussed and mutually agreed.
Like today, we chatted about getting a new car. (She doesn’t drive so effectively my car). Current ride is only 3 years old and less than 12k miles so It was a no by mutual agreement.
But if I’d mentioned a few Bob for a piece of plastic!!!!! Weird the way her mind works?
