Hi there --- was thinking about my top/favourite 5 german WW2 aircraft (predominantly influenced by their appearance!!) .. thought i would place them in a list of 1 thru to 5 (1 being the most favoured and so on). Will be interested to see other modellers top 5 German WW2 aircraft .. I sometimes browse thru sites looking for interesting aircraft that i may want to consider building and this is also a way to highlight "other" aircraft that I may not be familiar with. Some which didn't make my list but may makes other folks are the Me262, the Dornier (nearly did), the FW190, the JU52, the Storch (also quite close) .......

The rules are -- only 5.

  1. Heinkel He111 H4
  2. Junkers 87 G series - Stuka
  3. Junkers 88 A4
  4. Me110 G2
  5. Me109 G6
Interested to see other contribtions ......

Lindsey

Fw190 A8/R8 'Sturmbock'

Bf110 G4

Me262 B-1a/U4

Tx al -- just dashed off to see what a Henschel 129 looks like .... very nice looking aircraft (put that on my list of "to do". Not a big fan of the 190 but I must admit the A8 version looks quite interesting .....rgds

Mmmm, very difficult as there are so many. I'll start with the usual suspects.

1 Bf109F The cleanest and meanest of the lot.

2 Ta152H Focke-Wulf family but I love the long wingspan. Always found the Fw190A-F ugly buggers!

3 Me262 The only jet I've really been interested in.

Now a couple off the wall just for their looks. Number four is a seaplane, the Do18D. I've added a photo of this lovely beast for those who will not be familiar with it.

And as we've had a Dornier it's only fair that we have a Heinkel. The He70 again with a piccy.

Where did we see a wing like that a few years later?

Cheers

Steve

I love them. Built to do as much damage as they can in the least possible time. :)
They were great aircraft,no doubt about it. If I had to fly any fighter available in late '41/42 it would be an Fw190. It's just that for looks I'm not a big fan of radial engines.

Cheers

Steve

Mine would be these.

1 Me 109 G10

2 FW 190 A8

3 ME 110 any version

4 FW 190 D9 Dora

5 ME 262

It's good to see the Ju87 popping up,one of the ugliest aircraft ever built! Obviously many of you don't agree, which is all part of the fun.

yes ... it has come around twice now (i'm a big fan of it's very ugly duckling type looks!!!) ... another very not so good looking aircraft is the fiesler storch ... character all of it's own ....nearly cracked my top 5......Lindsey

p.s. another one which i have seen some fantastic builds of is the Ju52 ....

I'm surprised noone has gone for "flying wings" of the Horten brothers. I know technically they didn't enter service but they are certainly good looking machines. I nearly went for the "Komet" too. That would be the ride of a life time!

Cheers

Steve

That Do18D looks a lot like a Catalina does it not?

Ian M

Do "almost made it's" apply?

Then I'd go for the -

Horten Ho 229

Messerschmitt Me410

Heinkel He100

Heinkel He162

Heinkel He119

Elegent birds all

Not a Heinkel fan, just think they are pretty

the he100 is a fine looking plane .... has a bit of the me109 about it maybe? the me410 is great too ...what sort of role did it play in the war .... ground support, tank buster? tx lindsey.. can't seem to find any pics of the heinkel 119 and 162 ....

The Me410 was derived from the Me210 which was supposed to replace the Bf110 aircraft. But the Me210 was a failure and the Me410 was upgraded from the Me210. They mostly used it in attacks against allied bombers but the escort aircraft ripped them to shreds

I'm not sure if the Dornier looks like a Catalina or vice versa! I'd need to check some dates.

You really need to know what you are looking for to tell an Me410 from an Me210. They are externally essentially the same aircraft.

I agree that Heinkel made some good looking aircraft.

Thought the Me410 had a longer fuselage and leading edge slats to increase stability? Also had uprated engines from what i remember

Messerschmitt Me 323 Gigant

Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A5

Me 109AK /desert camouflage

Junkers Ju 390

the ju390 and the me323 gigant are very very big aeroplanes ... did they ever see service in ww11 and if so where and when .... this is the first time i have seen them ....

Some interesting stuff on these two on Wiki. The Me323 did enter service and suffered losses in action while the JU390 appears not to though there are claims that one made a flight to New York.
