discussion Naked fuselage

Hi all.

I want to paint the undersurface of a plane like 'naked' effect. Without a medium sea grey or other camouflage colours...

I have a bottle of semi matt aluminium (alclad laquer).

It's a correct colour..?

I do attempt with a sheet of plastic. Looks quite dark...but have to say, the primer was black. So I will paint in light grey primer, then a preshade with black and the last one aluminium...

Would be ok?

Have any suggestion please.

Hi Polux.

If you are doing a "silver" Spitfire you will do a lot better with for example a tin of Humbrol Aluminium. Although there was very few Spitfires that where striped to metal, all the others where in fact painted "Speed Silver" an aluminium coloured lacquer.

The Humbrol paint will give a good likeness.

Should you want to use the Alclad, it would work better over a gloss underpaint as it will give a nicer finish and you might be better with their Aluminium. It's a bit lighter and a bit smother.

You are in the right direction!

All this questions are for the Spitfire. Have to say, it will be painted with the Tartan colours...?

Think the undersurface should see better with aluminium than other colour. And hope will have a different look with the Tartan on the upperside!

I will try the gloss coat under the laquer!! Thanks for the tip!

A last question....

It's difficult to do a wash on a plane? I'm quite afraid about it...

Easy as everything else. If you are using the Alclad I would recommend a water base wash as solvent base ones can do nasty things to the finish on Alclad.
