Been building a 1/72 HMS Andromeda (with a gun) for about 5 years now. It had to share time with work, other hobbies and was something that steadily progressed.
Been retired 3 years now but were still too many distractions :hungry:, now getting some focus and progress speeding up - so much detail to do at that scale....

I'm ex-RN, and Androm my first ship, hence the model. Also have started a 1/96 HMS Blake (another old ship).

Steep learning curve as only really did plastic kits before...
Have a plan to get it on the water before end of year...

Welcome Ray, or as my dad would say 'alreet bonny lad'.
Leanders good solid ships. Ex RN myself, Mainly Tribals, (x3), but did do F15 - HMS Euryalus. Not bad for a Wafu!!
You've landed in a good forum, some excellent modellers, advice and banter.

You mention 'Snakey Blakey!! Have a butchers at Chris, AKA @boatman build of HMS Tiger. 1/72 scale I believe.
Link to his completed build.

20 years I worked with the Army and I saw more rum issued then than I did in 25 years in the RN!!! What was it the trench diggers called it - oh yeah! 'Gunfire'. Whereabouts in Newcastle did you work Mike. See if I can remember any names. (Been over 50 years now!!!) Nationalised Southern Softie these days. ;) :thumb2:

Yep, more floaty boaty types is no bad thing. I would say 'welcome aboard', but it's been done

And is too obvs

Aghhhhhhhh, cardinal sin Chris. NO 'the' prefix before HMS. You've been listening to too many news reporters. It's simply HMS Blake or whatever warship. It's like drawing your fingernails across a chalk board to a matelot!!!!!!
100 lines to you sir, 'I must not put 'the' in front of HMS'. Naughty step for you.:tears-of-joy:
Other than that, have a nice day with yer Hornet. :thumb2:

Technically, it’s the same with British tanks but hardly anybody (except some Brits) observe that rule. For example, it “should” be The first British MBT was Centurion rather than The first British MBT was the Centurion, but just about everyone says the latter.

Of course, individual ships have proper names (as do some individual tanks), and in English those don’t get prefixed with articles — you wouldn’t say “I see the Jim over there” but “I see Jim over there” so it would be the same with ships.

DAI was on Walker Road
And the archtectural model company was above a model shop in Clayton Street in the town centre.
Used to own a house in Kingswood Avenue, High West Jesmond.
Sold up and moved away in 1980 when I went Sarf to work for BAe in their mock-up shop as a modelmaker.
We used to get a dollop of rum in our morning tea when the cooks brought round what was laughingly called a 'hot' breakfast' when on exercise in the UK, watching the scrambled eggs swimming around in water was enough to put me off them for life. We soon learned to buy a camping stove and gas bottle.....

Hi Chris, I will put up some pics of F57...
I have had a quick look at some of your Tiger pics, hadn't really thought about the two-piece build but I can see the ships superstructure lends itself to that. Much easier transport.
Too late for Andromeda, just have to buy a van for transport...

Pics of your friends build would be much appreciated...

Cheers
Ray
