hi all. new here.

Been modelling for years but never so seriously just built it not painted or anything but now I've found f1 models

So after rubbing it back twice I'm finaly happyish with it.

Now for the rest of it lol

Just one question. Do I put the decals on now or clear vote it first and what clear vote is best as its painted with tamiya acrylics.

And do I need decal setting solution

Tamiya I think do their own clear coat for acrylic. I'd just use that to be safe.

As for Decals I have always done the decals once the model is fully built and painted as you lessen the risk of damaging your work handling the model.

I'd go for clear coat after decals

I would keep to the Tamiya products and then you are safe GDB ( best put your forename in your profile ).

Clear coat it first before the decals. On the edge of the decals there is a clear area. Decals fixed on a matt finish will show up this clear area which will shine thro (called silvering as that is what it looks like). Clear coat with a gloss mostly they disappear.

After the decals you can finish with what ever varnish clear coat etc to finish your model.

Be interested to see your final result GDB.

thanks for the quick replies. ill clear coat it later or tomorrow then. will the clear coat be acrylic so I thin it with water again.

should I use decal setting solution or just water.

ive go the body built now aswell so just need to glue them together now

also you can probably see the lines on the black area, this has been left by the masking tape, is there a way of getting rid of this

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Paint - clear - decals - clear. The Better gloss the decals go onto, the better the end result.

Setting solution shouldn't be really necessary, But its good to have on hand, should a decal be reluctant to stay down.

A Decal softener is also handy to have if a decal has to be placed over details such as rivets or panel lines. Often warm water can do the trick as well.

Masking tape is best removed before the paint has dried, As soon as you dare really. as any edge formed by the tape should flatten off. The best however is not to spray to heavy to the tape as this will make a ridge. If you can, spray off the tape as this helps reduce the formation of said ridge!

Should you end up with a ridge. Wet and dry. Very fine and loads of water.

Clear coat for the decals. Once the decals and weathering are finished then it is up to you what finish you require for your model. Gloss satin or matt. As my models to date have all been military aircraft I finish with matt varnish.

It's not so much a ridge but I painted the black and then put masking tape over it to paint the silver when I removed the tape of the black its left lines on it

I'll clear coat it tomorrow. Thanks guys

Hi welcome to the forum, just to add read instructions carefully right to the end as on some models when the kit is fully built it would be impossible to apply some decals as parts you applied before may well be in the way, just thought I would point that out, decals are not necessarily the last thing you apply.
