just an idea for the next competition...

see who can make the most interesting sculpture out of sprue...

what does everyone think?

Here is another suggestion around these lines, some years ago Revell did a competition whereby you had two specific kits, the idea was to make a 'what if' subject from the two,the winners model was stunning, this could be a lot of fun, they do what is called 'Cook ups' on many of the other groups, you select a subject and build that one model type, the sprue sculpture would be a real challenge.

By the way that competition by Revell was the start of the what if ? revolution,I just love the originality of those models.

Why not knock something up Richard from sprue to inspire us all ?

Theres also the whole "group build" projects which i think could be quite good fun for us.

Erm making stuff out of sprues? my entry will be a 1:35th walking stick then!

Gents,

Please find attached my entry into the "Glue the Sprue" competition.

My model is of the U-Boat U-47 seconds after it has fired its first torpedo at the Royal Oak as she lays unsuspecting at Scapa Flow.

The model is scratchbuilt and made entirely out of stretched sprue from genuine vessel drawings. I also feel it appropriate to mention that the model was made from the sprue of my current build, the Revell 1/72nd U-Boat which I feel gives the model a certain degree of credibility and poignancy.

I have not yet decided on the weathering medium but I may experiment with pastels and carefull airbrushing.

Richard it looks like a Braun toothbrush refill !!!! not that im accusing you of anything lol

LOL thats funny Richard,a literal sprue model if ever there was one ? with careful thought I think you would be surprised what could be achieved with sprue, after all look what people do with plastikard, lolly sticks and matchsticks ! such ingenuity and application would be interesting.

It could even develop into a special section at IPMS meetings, people worldwide would be collecting sprue to build models, manufacturers would think about adding extra sprue in their kits as a bonus..now you have got me getting carried away !

As always gents, limited by your imagination only. A sense of humour is quite usefull as well.

Nigel I am offended at your inference. I'll have you know that my model took many many many seconds to make and was crafted entirely with my own bare hands out of materials currently on my work bench.

The photo did not do it justice, as is often the case with such a degree of detail, but the cleverly designed joint between the two pieces could have won awards.
