Here's the finished 1/72 diorama.
Russian forces are pushing back the invader. Tanks have reached a river and found an intact rail bridge. Rather than risk damaging the perhaps weakened structure, the lead tank has managed to ford the river.

Thanks chaps. I'm chuffed you approved of the finished model.

It really is no more. I've saved the tanks, track, trees and the bridge. The rest has been binned.

A bit of a brutal end and some might regard it as silly, which I fully understand, but family and friends have no interest in my stuff and I wouldn't display my models anyway, so it's far better for me to take pictures and then save what I might need for future use.

For me, 90% of my model making is simply the enjoyment of trying to create something from just an idea.

The other alternative would have been for it to go up in the loft with some other models I've saved, never to be seen again, but It wouldn't have gone through the loft hatch anyway.

Sad, but re-cycled it has to be.

Cheers.
Ron

Some excellent work. Amazing structure. The gardening was tops, loved the broken ice. PaulE

Ron,
The build was superb. I can see your reasoning, but it is a crying shame to destroy something that we can only dream of making.

a great little dio that. Master of water and ice strikes again!

I can fully understand the idea of build take pictures and dismantle. Save the good bits and bin the rest. Practical and thrifty. And the amount of dioramas you turn out in a year, you would need a warehouse to stor them in.
I am having issues with finding room to place single models, one of the main reasons I just dont do diorama builds. A simple base at the most.

That was a stunning piece of work Ron, such a shame but really understand where you're coming from.

I'd have sat for a year or so looking at this and gloating to myself! It's a pity to destroy such excellent work, but what else can you do if they're not going on display elsewhere?

Stunning work Ron and a very believable scene, something like this properly did take place during world war II somewhere.

Thanks for the great comments everyone.

Re- cycling, as I prefer to call the destruction of this model, was not something I did lightly. In fact it bl***y annoyed me, I just couldn't see an alternative.

.......but reading your positive comments has put a smile back on my face. So good people, I thank you.

Ron

HI again Ron there was one thing that puzzeled me on that dio an that was how come there was no snow or ice on the bridge ? when all a round it was snow an such

Good observation Chris, but there is a slight dusting of snow and ice on the bridge and the iron railway lines are iced over right along the whole length.
Also keep in mind I've tried to model it in late winter/early spring. The sun is starting to gain a bit of strength and the river ice is breaking up. The wooden bridge will warm slightly in the weak sunshine melting a fair bit of snow, whereas the ground either side is still rock hard and is resisting any real thawing - For now.

Thanks for the question... :thumb2:
