Inspired by peterairfix's thread.

When we had our Collie spayed we put a cone on her to keep her from fussing.

The one word that resulted ? Terror...



She was rooted to the spot and didn't even blink. So we put one on the Springer hoping to make her feel less worried but she still didn't budge an inch.



In the end she took up Stock Car Racing and felt a lot better....

Always thought that the cones must concentrate noise for them, and given that their hearing is a lot more sensitive than ours, must be confusing.

I hate cones, and won’t have them on my animals unless they are absolutely essential. Cats, in particular are terrified of them, and usually get a front leg trapped trying to get them off.

Our little collie cross would not wear a cone. We bought a kind of body suit which she tolerated reasonably well. Collies are the most beautiful, intelligent of dogs, ours is 16 this month.

Most dogs don't like them, as they restrict their vision & they can't see anything behind them ( they may hear something, but can't see it ) - transparent ruffs can work, but even a muzzle can be less distressing
