Seems like a lot of us need help cross matching colours between brands, so this thread is hopefully here to help.

If you find a link to a good site with conversion tables, post it in this thread so we can find them easily.

Here are a couple to start the ball rolling;

www.paint4models.com/paintchart/paintconversionchart20100101g.html#

Covers most of the popular hobby brands and has a search function!!! (I use this one a lot.)

www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/colorcharts.asp

I find this one quite helpful as well.

www.acrylicosvallejo.com/en_US/downloads

loads of info on their paints, a good FAQ and each of the files on the different paints has a list over conversions. They can be downloaded.

Dont expect the colours shown on the screen or if you print the folders out to be 100% (unless you have a fully calibrated screen and printer). But good enough to see sort of where they lay.

Any more out there?

There is also an app available iModelkit which is very useful, despite the initial letter I do not think it is limited to apple.

very useful all, thank you for posting this one, :D

but still that lifecolor is a hard one to track down to cross with other brands,

There's hobby colour converter and model assistant apps on Android too.

a helpful app I found is Hobby colour converter for android think you can get it for apple as well

I have to say that I do not use conversion charts.  I will research the correct colour for the build on-line and select the appropriate colour from the range I am using.  FS, RLM and BS numbers are all useful guides and some paint ranges supply these for easy reference.

The most useful chart is this one also identified by Ian: http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/colorcharts.asp

other useful ones I have not spotted above:

This site has conversion charts from several paint ranges to current Humbrol colours
Then you can use that on other charts to get to various other ranges
The site is useful for returnees who might have stocks of old enamel paints as it gives conversions from Airfix, Heller, and Humbrol Authentics to current Humbrol

Go to their home page and there sections on other aspects of modelling

Anyone else having problems with the paint4models chart not working? I've tried on the phone and pc and it isn't loading

If using chrome make sure you click on the I in a circle in front of the address and enable flash for the site
If flash is disabled you get a blank page
If using firefox check if flash is disabled

I've been trying to access the ipms colour chart (and site)for a while now and all i get is a 500 - internal server error. Any ideas guys n gals?

I have just remembered this and have posted another thread on the theme as I have found an excellent phone app called Model Paints. It’s the best I have found. See the other thread, I won’t repeat it here

Does anybody here do what I do - get a general idea, research a while, then decide 'that looks right ...' and go for it!?

Yep, me! These applications have a place if you are unsure of your colour eye though. They let you use your preferred paint type when following the researched scheme on the kit instructions.
