Being in primer it really shows up your re-scribing skills Ian. Everything is so straight & true, top class work sir!

Nice work on the rescribing. Shows up really well under the primer. Nice work.

Right got some more done to this one. Like I said at the start of this one, I'm going to try the black basing technique.
First of all you paint it all black
View attachment 275384
Then using the base colour ( in this case white ) thinned to around 60 thinners 40 paint you spray random patterns on the black, the tighter the better.View attachment 275385 View attachment 275386
Then when that's done you thin the colour again to around 80 thinners to 20 paint then giving the subject several thin coats of the paint until you get the effect you want. This is after 4 coats.

And these are after around 8 coats.

I hope you can see the random mottling that your meant to get.
All this is meant to be a better effect than panel lining in black.
This being my first time doing it I think it does look better than the panel line method.
What do you guys think ?

Right colour call outs,
Revell says
M= dark green 90% olive green 10%
L= olive green 80% greyish green 20%
K= beige 80% brown 20%
Anybody know a single colour call out for them.

For what paint Ian? The colour call-outs on my Eduard instructions are:

FS 34079 dark green
FS 34102 medium green
FS 30219 beige

Thanks Patrick I should be able to convert the FS numbers. Thanks again mate.

Well, you've been busy since I last checked in. Great progress and looking really nice, quite ominous in black.

black basing technique
Nice idea. I have a Vixen to do sometime in the future and might try this out.

Very nice Ian, great tight demarcation between the camo colours - top class airbrushing.

Hi Ian think I'm building the same kit near enough as you, but I'm only in the early stages ( cockpit tub etc )
I've been doing a lot of dry fitting and I don't see too many issues yet ( maybe need to put me specs on )
I notice you have the rear tail tubes ( I have noticed on the kit that they are flimsy so I may need to invest in some ( where to get?? )
I also note the afterburners are pretty basic but I want to build OOB.
I ordered my extra paints from Vallejo so I got the Federal standard right I hope
This phantom you are producing looks very kick ass and the colours are exceptional and the black basting seems to work wonders with the panel lines ( although I'm not rescribing ( or best I can get away with it. )
I'm all caught up with this build so far and will be watching to the end ( Tips tips and more tips ) hee hee

Great looking project so far.

Kind regards

Robert
