How does this work then? Why not sign in/join the forum?

There are currently 89 users online. 9 members and 80 guests

I suppose some people just like to see what's going on,maybe try to find a bit of info but may not feel ready to sign up or contribute. I think most forums (should that be fora?) would have similar statistics.

I do agree that if you like what you see then why not join up,but it's everyone's free choice.

Cheers

It is also the power of Google. Maybe someone is searching for something using keywords that bring up the forum as well, I d it every day and there are always forums come up which, if the info is useful, I take a note of and move onto the next one.

To true Graham. We are just so open and welcoming. I still often stumble across fora (there you go Steve) Which let you read but if you want to see the pictures, you have to join!! And lets face it 90% of the time we are after photo referances and the last 10% is ducumentation as to if things were where we want them at the given time, and with which unit.

Google is great for this but boy do you get some funny results some times, and some quite rude ones too! (They just get bookmarked for later use, the funny ones that is)!

I was on a forum page the other day and there was over 500 guests and 1 member one line!!!

Some of the users online are also bots for Google, msn etc, I've just looked now out of the 57 online 8 are members 5 are bots the rest are just people having a look, I don't have a problem with that a lot of the lurkers do turn in to members, it would be nice for a few more to participate but you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him join and post :)

I've enabled spiders online, so now it looks like There are currently 121 users online. 10 members and 103 guests and 8 spiders

Forgive my ignorance, but what's a spider? And please don't tell me it's a member of the arachnid family! lol

A spider is basically a small piece of software used by search engines. It basically visits websites collecting keywords. Then when you enter a keyword it will return a result of a page that matches that keyword.

So for example, if you entered "Radio controlled tank" it would return the page in this forum about a radio controlled tank.

This forum has been set up so that you can view a page without registering but you cant edit or post. Its basically how I found this site. I was researching a kit I was about to start and one of the results I found was a post from this forum.

OK so I've now got "Spiders" and "Bots" to add to "Worms", "Trawling " and Pfishing" and a whole load of other strange words I struggle with.

I bet there areen't many of you can use a slide rule though!!:smile1:

I did learn at school. I reckon I could still manage basic functions,I certainly remember how to multiply. Does that count? I haven't seen one for about forty years lol.

There was a film (probably a Deutches Wochenschau) featuring the V2 and I distinctly remember a shot of some very studious looking German fellas wearing white coats and using slide rules.

Those were the days!
