Whatever your political views please vote. Think carefully about the issues and vote for the party that you believe will serve the interests of the people best. Just remember how powerful a thing a vote is and that people have died to have that right. Also bear in mind the saying, that for evil to flourish, it only requires good men to do nothing.
I agree Keith but don't forget evil comes with a smile :)

A thing that cheeses me of are the wingers and whiners that moan about the gov. When asked who did they vote reply "I didn't vote"

My reaction is normally tell them to stop whining then.

The ironic thing is that our politicians reflect the society that elects them or at least those who do vote. There are good and bad among them as in all walks of life. I have met many politicians of all Parties, good bad and indifferent. Some I know well. One thing I can say with absolute certainty they nearly all enter politics for the right reasons. Some go wrong, some get too far 'up themselves' some are plain stupid, but that is no different to anyone in any other occupation. Do not let the minority of real bad eggs who get the publicity win by tainting them all with the same brush.

I agree to a point but I always ask why they don't , if the answer is I can't be bothered then I say don't whinge then but if it's down to a protest then I fully understand and I agree with them , I voted from 85 until 97 then when I saw who I'd voted for and how wrong they were I didn't vote until 2010 when I had to vote simply on principle to change things , my none voting was a protest not a case of not being bothered as ive said earlier in the thread I protest vote now if I feel I'm not being listened too :)

Well, the leaders debate is on ITV right now....how much do you think you can last? :)

Agree Barry. Being an MP is one of the last bastions of a call to duty dedication. Living a great deal of the time away from wives or husbands and their children. Late sessions and then weekends back to the constituency to take their meetings with their constituents. Most are highly intelligent to get there their constituent parties make sure of that. The amount of money they earn is pitiful compared to their hours and responsibility.

There used when I was young Doctors Nurses Surgeons Firefighters Police who were in that category but now.

Given a franchise use it it is the cheapest gift given to the people of Britain. Many countries do not have it or know how to use it.

Can you clear something up for me concerning US politics Jim
Is it true that if your rich enough or backed by enough influential people you can buy the presidency?

If so 1 it explanes how George W Bush Jr. got elected and 2 it's not democratic is it
Go ahead , think the worst of it-- because you're right! I don't think it's any particular form of govt. that matters. Even communism looks utopian {on paper} I've found over the years that MAN is the problem, one of our founders said "This govt. will work as long as those participating in it remain honorable" I think our collective ship has ominously sailed on that issue :(

Thing is Barry what you touched on earlier is why people like me don't trust any politician, laws have been brought in to stop injustice and protect us from the bad in society , the thing is when the boots on the other foot you will find no protection or justice , I have been on this side of the fence and found even though I was the victim I ended up being the persecuted , all I want is to be treated the same , I don't want to be treated better I want to im treated equally and know that I'm protected as well , it's something the political elite have let slide

Being a white male means it's quite lawful to be discriminated against

Vote, vote, vote blah blah blah .....when was the last time your PM vote or whatever you guys call it was counted in a foreign socialist country for the ONLY time in your nations history! well that's what happened to us ..... country.......Spain, would you TRUST them? what now?! we can't count our own VOTES  Briton and the U.S.A. are the only two civilized powers in the world, France you say? REALLY?o_O It's up to US! problem is we're not up for IT! :(

I've never voted for anyone and never will in my opinion it would be a valuable waste of my free time. Would the world we live in be a better place today if I had voted of course not.The politicians all promise different agendas and ideas and reforms etc blah blah blah and end up dong all the same things mostly anyways.Whoevers been in power as it really affected my life honestly not as I'd noticed.I agree someone as to be in charge as otherwise anarchy would reign and although this might be fun for a couple of days it could become rather dangerous. So for all those that do bother voting thanks for your efforts but I claim my right not to. Politics and Religion how much trouble have these two caused in the past. I give both a very wide berth. Its great though how this debate on politics as gone so far with nobody falling out so kudos to all the members and it's a shame our "leaders" don't conduct themselves in the same manner. VOTE xxxxxxxx no thank you

Can we not just

So.......... Power crazed, egotistical, how much can I make from my memoirs (and my wife's if you have the surname Blair or Clinton) and only interested in knocking on my door while I'm having dinner when they want my vote.... How many times, in the last five years has my MP just called by to say "Hi, how are you doing thanks for voting for me...... None of that comes into it .............

Let's not get too emotional and sympathetic about how hard done by they are ............. They get, 3 times or more in salary than the average person, over generous expenses which they abuse and then come up with ridiculous nonsense to try to justify it when they get caught at it instead of "Manning Up" to it, get to buy houses on the tax payers tab,.......When they either resign in disgrace or finish up they get a Golden Handshake, a Pension and a peerage ....... As well as all that they have other jobs (look up on google Rifkind & Straw) which they are doing instead of representing their constituents, who pay their wages.............. and if they are really lucky (and have the surname Blair) you can become "Peace Envoy" for the middle East ????? Where did that one come from .......???? Peace Envoy ???? ........ He sent the Army in to two middle East Countries????

Oh........ and I forgot to mention that their mates on that independent???? committee:p voted them a 9% pay rise? When everyone else in the country got bugger all.

So let's not be worrying ourselves if they are not going to be able to afford dinner in one of the subsidised (by us tax payers) restaurants in the Houses of Parliament, while they cut a deal to carve up the NHS and Armed Forces budget) tonight or not ..............Because they have such a bad life.

I actually want to vote, I really do but you show me a party in this day and age that is worth my vote. Now I see the logic that if you don't vote then someone gets in that not many people want so I think a big change is needed we need new political parties and politicians that are not tory, labour and u kip. Face it its the same choices every few years so until a political party materialises that actually want to help the people of this country I will hold my vote for them.

Soooo the political ranting begins. Pull it in or I will pull the plug.

Well I did my bit and I must say it was true to form in the fact that they just bickered like kids from the main parties

Sturgeon was doing a very good act of trying to sell herself to the british people but we all know she hates the union so we won't buy the rhetoric

The Welsh one sorry I forgot her name just prattled on about how bad it was in Wales

Bennett was out of her depth trying to say political correctness was the best way to be and she did well not sounding like Adolfo hitler

Farrage was his charming self giving them all a good hiding and taking abuse from the real fascists quite well

Over all though I have to say that this American debate thing is not for us Brits we should dump it

I watched it without the sound on................. :P I'm sure I missed nothing much.

In the early 1970s the American magazine 'Rolling Stone' printed a definition of politics

'You scratch my back, and I'll lick the slime from between your toes'
