So deep breath ....... and here we go ....... back to the mancave ....... no ....... you can't make me ........ 🤣

hey presto ..... with the shop front .....

I'd need to shimmie it into position as it would probably just do the job and no more in that location ..... size wise.

what do you think ....... in ..... or ..... out ?

all comments welcome as usual.

cheers

Didn't do an update onthe diorama itself last night. Only one bay of 8 cobble rows added.

Hope to do more tonight .... maybe another 2 or 3 bays.

I have the Simca 5 Staff Car arriving this afternoon so may do a quick build on that. It looks easy and would give me a base model to use for the formation of my explosion bunker.

I think dipping in and out of the various elements of the build is a good idea as it allows it all to come together better rather than obvious individual builds just dumped in place.

It also give relief from monotomy that could creep in ( with the cobbles for example ) I'm nowhere even near fed up with the cobbles as yet but Ii'm sure thats just a matter of time.

Hopefully see you when reporting in from the mancave later.

Cheers for now

Wow, for a self proclaimed virgin modeller you are throwing yourself in at the deep end, Lol!
A large diorama with road, buildings, figures and several vehicles, brave, very brave, but good on you, more power to your elbow and all that, and I am looking forward to seeing how you get on..... looks like a great idea for a dio.... cheers :)(y)

So .... mancave all locked up for the night but the brain keeps ticking ..... I'm thinking ahead to the explosion zone as I will be at the point within the not too distant future where Iwill find myself dealing with it.

I have been messing around with the chicken wire and started my sacraficial Simca 5 so working on a few fronts hopefully all to come together at the required time.

My next consideration is once I've cut the " explosion zone " into the balsa road base, and cutout the foam below to create the physical crator, I then need to start building the resultant hole back up again.

My thoughts are turning to question ..... with what ? Do I go down the DAS air drying clay route ..... or .... some kind of Modge Podge or fibre filler, or a mixture of both.

I have not reallyworked with any of these mediums but get the feeling that I better get familiar with them ...... and quick.

I have an abundance of materials to use fr broken rubble ....... cobbles .... concrete lintels that can be broken up ..... anything made of plaster. There will be car parts ...... street furniture etc that can also be used ..... my beloved Simca 5 ...... blown up. 😂

Any ideas on the crator materials gratefully received. Some tips on how they do in terms of effective depths they can be used to, thicknesses, and how realistic a " terrain " type of look they can achieve would be helpful.

Cheers for now.

Keep in mind all that was in the hole is now scattered about. It sounds like U have plenty of material for that. Cobbles U have, underlayment, stones & dirt supply is unlimited outdoors'.

Absolutely ..... loads of scatter materials. I'll look at that once certain elements are nearer completion. Same with one of the other big exercises that I will have with balsa wood ..... broken roof members, floor boards, windows ..... it goes on and on. I won't be finished this anytime soon. :D

So .... hit the mancave earlier and have even impressed myself with my progress and still feel like there is still some fuel left in the tank for more .....

P1010760.webp

finished this section all bar the various cuttings that will need to be done .... I'm not slowing down to do these just now. Obviously still have to grout , paint, weather etc .

P1010761.webp

and an ariel shot ..... whatcha think ??????

I'm moving onto this section next .....

P1010763.webp

which falls at the other side of the explosion ...... and then this .....

P1010762.webp

The last bay on the side I've just been working on ..... why the jumping about ....... Purely psychological on my behalf. Either way , I am closing in towards the the explosion zone, leaving the longest stretch of cobble laying until last.

Once I get to the point of working around the explosion hole, things should hopefully start to get interesting again. I will still be using the Simca 5 as a welcome distraction from cobbling when I feel I need it. next to phase in will be the permanent gluing of the three buildings and then the balsa wood production saw mill shall kick in to start flooring and roof construction amongst other timber elements.

bare with me ..... hopefully you should find it interesting as we progress.

now ..... back to cobbling ..... cheers for now
