Back in the mancave .... a little later today as I was on domestic duties ..... not all bad news though as I managed to get a section of nice flat worktop from B and Q for £3.00 ..... bargain and excellent for doing my floors and roof / ceiling structures off ....
and there we are .... a thing of beauty .... the worktop that is.
So carrying on with what will become the first floor floor. Now an admission to make here. The floor joists would have been better in a 2.4mm width as that would allow for some joints to be installed in the floor boards and give enough of a bearing to rest on. I did not have any in stock so I have had to go with something a bit thinner. Once the floor boards are glued on , there will be enough structural integrity but ideally it would have been thicker without being too un-scale.
There is now some ordered however and will be available for the other buildings.
here is where I have stopped for now to give it a chance to dry as this can all move about too easily and you end up going backwards.
Another point ..... for anyone wanting to give this a go ..... lay some cling film down on your work surface to avoid the risk of the balsa sticking to it ..... just like I have not done ..... I will for the others. I was too keen to jump in.
Anyway ..... as I wait for some drying out time ..... Amazon came today .......
Black self adhesive Vinyl to make my underfloor tanking / DPC.
I ordered the non magnetic stuff but low and behold ..... guess what I got .... no matter. I held a knife to it and it did not attach so maybe it is non magnetic. I would normally posted this on the Goodies thread but since its for use on this build and probably not of much interest .... I just posted it here.
Now back to cutting noggings for now.

Don't know if I will get on to laying the floor boards today as I would rather let if fully dry out before working on it any more. I have moved the structure to try and prevent it from sticking to the work top so I hope it does not permanently stick whilst I'm away through the week. ..... Message to self ....... Cling film the next time ..... PVA does not like cling film.
Once the whole structure id done, it will get a black wash followed later by a brown wash. Then I attack the ceiling underneath. I am planning a lath and plaster finish as it does look good but we'll see. It maybe just a white card finish in order to speed up the building process ..... there is gazillions of things to do.

Right , good idea then. The problem with pva even when wiped it stains the wood and seals it . When I was at work, we used to wipe the glue surplus with cellulose.
Ok ..... the structure was strong enough to start the floor boarding ..... so ..... here we go ...
starting to look like a porkupine ..... er ..... I mean floor already ....
and bit by bit it goes together ....
getting closer to completion of the task in hand ....

a bit of a shot in place ....
and another with the building on its side and my hands out of the way .....
and the last shot for now showing the upper deck a bit better.
The whole structure will be subject to both a black wash and a brown wash but I'll leave that until I come back down the road next week and give the PVA time to dry thoroughly first.
So .... windows and door to frame out and maybe a very little representation of what is left of the roof. The trouble with that is that there is very little wall structure lrft to fix it to but lets see what can be achived.
Also ..... the ground floor has been cast in such a way as that it does not give you enough depth to create a floor like the upper floor just completed. there are options ..... either a concrete floor slab or ..... I dig a basement out of the foam layer .... not sure which way to go yet. ...... Oh ..... and an upper floor .... attic level ceiling. Looks like the Proxxon table saw will be out for a while yet.
Still .... it has made a welcome change from plaster casting which will need to be revisited later ...... when I get fed up with the balsa hacking.
All in a day's hobbying eh.

At 1:35 scale, a typical UK 9" thick wall (225mm) would only about 6.5mm thick, just to give you some perspective. Cheers
Thanks for that pjgtech. I will be revisiting the stone wall as I'm not happy with what I have so far.
I have however sped on with some of the door and window framing .....
maybe not the best with clamps in the way but I'll remove them. The glue should have taken a grip by now.
and another
and from the inside ...... these will be framed inside as well so the joint should not show.
better with clamps removed .....
and thats the last for now ...... need to go and pack a bag for tomorrows trip to Dounreay.

Looking fab mate, love your attention to detail, it will all be worth it on completion.
I've done a few dioramas now, but all have been quite small and I've only done very small, partial. bits of buildings, not sure I'm ready for anything like the size or ambition that you are doing, so more power to your elbow and all that!
I am following the updates keenly, hoping to learn a few things myself....

Loads of videos to " show you the way " 
on utube.
I follow 1/35th scale diorame builds the guy is good on buildings and diorama detail using balsa and plaster moulds etc.
I played around with it briefly before just practcing some of his methods but this is the first semi serious attempt.
On hindsight a smaller diorama may have been the way to go for a first attempt but I wanted to include more to give me the opportunity to pack more techniques in.
The hardest part is still to come .... painting, weathering and producing a credible landscape ...... it could all end in tears ..... and in the bin.
A bit at a time and loads of videos and research on methodology. The main thing right now is that the mojo is riding high and I am enjoying it.
