noticed a few of you guys talking about going to cosford for the modelling show,i am pondering on going primarily to get some cheap models,question is, i have never been to one of these shows,could i expect to find lots of really cheap models as well as a nice day out or are they only slightly cheaper than going to a local model shop,because it is a fair old drive for me to get there and money is tight.would hat e to drive all the way there to find stuff that may be 50p cheaper than down the road from me,if you know what i mean

I doubt you will find any models much cheaper than the shops.What u will find are retailers selling detail sets,decals,paints and all the other stuff you cant buy in your local hobby shop.Plus u get to see amazing builds that will make u feel like a total novice!.Also the museum should be open,which will be well worth a visit.I intend going so anyone in the Southend area is welcome to come in my car if they are happy to contribute to my deisel costs.

I cannot say the kits are cheeper at the shows but you do spot the odd bargain. Also, there tends to be lots of older or more obscure kits as well as the speciality stuff as mentioned by Dave above. The best part of shows is seeing the models on display, the atmosphere and the fact that, just for a few hours, you are in a crowd of like minded and usually very friendly people.

I am at the Peterborough show on Saturday but will not be spending. Big outlays this month and the stash is far too big anyway. Might have to get something if it is one I have been looking for but unable to find online or in the shops but I doubt it.

Four Scale Models members went to Cosford last year, myself, yakface, noble and Gern. There were no end of cheap kits to be had and some good bargains all round....

The stalls closed at 5pm and at 4.30 one stall holder yelled " Everything on the floor, half price!" There must have been 50 kits to chose from.......

Great museum, armour as well as aircraft, a nice cafe and entrance to the whole thing is free!

Apart from the modelling side it's great to see faces instead of the typed word....

I opened a thread for Cosford earlier this year so if you like Andrew, I will post something there suggesting a time and place to meet for anyone going. That way it will all be on one thread.

i really do fancy going but my wife will ultimatly tell me wether we can go lol.with money so tight at the moment a 1.65 pot of paint gets frowned upon

Hi Andy,

It's gotta be worth a visit! Entry is free apart from car parking (Last year I think it was about £3.50) and you get to see all the normal museum exhibits as well as the model displays. There are 4 halls with hundreds of model clubs and dealers. The displays are awesome and although it's unlikely you will find the current releases much cheaper than you get in the shops, it is possible to get some good bargains on older stuff. Most of the dealers discount their normal prices and lots of the clubs have guys selling stuff at prices generally comparable to ebay. I've picked up some real bargains - my favourite was a Tamiya 1/32 Tomcat + Aries Cockpit + Masks + Decals for £65! Plus you get to meet some of the guys from the forum.

What more could you ask for a day out?

Ive always found that there are some cracking bargains to be had at the shows, its just that usually its something that you werent looking for!! You have to root them out like a truffle hound, under the tables at the club stalls is always a good bet, a few years ago i got about four kits each at £1 , and one of them was the 1/48 AMT meteor +V1! Im defo going this year for the class of 2010 reunion , not to mention some good bargains (and a bit of scotts birthday cake too!!) tony
