Having just finished my puttied Me262 I found this picture of a Bf109E-4.

Oh no,not again.

What would the reason be to do this?Clearly is was not done at the factory, it was aplied over the markings.

Some form of corotion protection maybe?

Or it could be about to be repainted for or back from another theatre of operations?

I'm guessing that it is in the middle of a major overhaul and repaint. I've seen reports on special finishes applied to seek a performance advantage but they earmarked aircraft on the production line for these tests and didn't use aircraft already in service,at least in the examples I've seen.

steve, maybe its just that the putty has fallen out due to wear and tear, that would explain why the crosses on the underside of the wing seem to be incomplete, perhaps its just due for a repaint? just a thought , cheers tony p.s. or maybe this is where the fashion for inked panel lines started!!!!!
