discussion Recommend me a cordless rotary tool.

Hi, I think I am in the market for a decent cordless rotary tool, eg: dremel type, but not dremel prices.
A bit like the Rotacraft one in the SMS, is that any good? will also need a few bits (various).
I already do have a corded dremel type tool (in the garage), but I don't like the trailing lead when modelling, so I prefer a cordless one for the model making.
I already have a good selection of bits, but will probably invest in a few more.
Would prefer a slow speed option or a good speed controller on board to avoid heat/melting plastic.
Will be used for various tasks, eg: drilling, screwing, sanding, grinding, shaping, cutting, etc.

I have the Tamiya model drill, but its only useful for drilling.
I have the Dspiae sander, but thats only good for sanding.
Hence my want/need for a more versatile rotary too.

Open to suggestions / recommendations.

Have a look at MFA Como drills. The one I have is not battery/rechargeable, not sure if they make those. It is excellent, can slow right down but maintains torque. To be honest I use it rarely. I prefer the control that comes from drilling, cutting and sanding by hand although it does have it's uses.

I have a Parkside one from Lidl, which can slow right down so it cuts rather than melting the plastic.

I have a minicraft one from about thirty five years ago. Runs off an old model railway transformer that is even older so I can take it down to pretty much zero revs. It’s one of my oldest, yet least used, modelling tools……I don’t really see their use in plastic modelling so I’ve never bothered to upgrade it. Before you shell out I would seriously think about the uses you would put it too. You might be better off spending out on high quality hand tools that you will use all the time.

I agree with tim......theres better things you could get

Ive got all sorts of tools ive bought on a whim of thinking 'that looks useful' and hardly ever used......ive got a set of fancy razor saws....look nice i doubt ive used them more than 3 times in the 7 years since i bought them

get yourself an airbrush and compressor....get far more use out of that
