seems like it was after the bournemouth air show and they were on their way back to land, has gone down near the village of throop and eyewitness's say the pilot steered the plane away from house and into a field by a river, still no news on the pilot yet .possibly landed in the river.

video of it going down is on the BBC website. Looks like he went in with it :(

sadly sounds like the pilot went down with none of the news reports I've read mention the pilot ejecting or being found.

Lets hope he's ok then just watched the news on bbc but still nothing on the pilot yet.

Just seen the news on ITV

Reds pilot didn't want to crash in the built up area. Unconfirmed reports are the pilot has been lost.

Dont know how reliable the daily mail is but I just found this online

A Ministry of Defence spokesman told MailOnline that the name of the pilot is being withheld, along with details of whether he was hurt or not.

I've just seen a couple of eyewitness accounts on news channels. Like everyone else I would hope for the best but the reports were not encouraging.

The MOD have confirmed the death of Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging of the Royal Air Force Aerobatics Team, The Red Arrows.

R.I.P Red4, Thoughts to his wife Emma and family......echo that of others a true hero paying the ultimate price to protect others.

A tragic event that could of been much worse if not for his skill and selfless actions. My thoughts go out to his family.

Always amazes me how these guys can function when all around them is falling apart. To have the where withall to guide the stricken Red Arrow away from houses is more than brave....

Along with thousands of others I always enjoy watching the Red Arrows, and I guess due to their exemplary safety record you don't realise how dangerous the job is.

They make me proud to be British, which doesn't happen much nowadays I tell you.

RIP Flt Lt Jon Egging and my thoughts go out to your family.

RIP Red 4 and keep looking over your mates with a smile. I wouldnd'nt be suprized if the MOD say it was mechanical failure.

Graham. Watching the video of the crash and reading the eye whitnesses accounts i would say it was engine failure/birdstrike. At the end of the day it doesn't mater what it was. Red 4 gave his life to save others on the ground. RIP Red 4
