Rehashing Hurtgen forest diorama

Thread owner
What are you using for the branches?

Hi Scottie, Jim R and Steven, thanks.
I use this dried plant from the florist. Don't know what it's called and is a far cry from pine needles which I need to coat with finely cut hemp rope to simulate that. What it does is give a believable structure of a pine branch to work with.
IMG_20250106_121640.jpg These are dried just before they open and bloom so there are two types the other has open petals.
Check out your local florist or it could be growing in your woods...looks like some form of heather or lavender buds.

Cheers,

Hi Scottie, I have tried asparagus ferns in the past but find them too delicate and flat without enough body.
Anyway assembling my trees need a set of instructions by the looks of it...
IMG_20250108_150052.jpg Each group has five branches and they have their aloted sizes for each tier. Not so fun part of making the Dio.

Tedious but needs to be done.

Those trees look very realistic. As you are very experienced in making monkeys I'm sure a squirrel or two would be well within your capabilities :)

Jim, the monkeys were an experiment and lucky to have turned out respectable. After sculpting 16 of those I thought of giving animals a break or I'd go loony. Squirrels would be a good idea but wouldn't they be hibernating? Perhaps a ferret?

Thanks Richard. I will lace my sentences with "it's" should they appear. I should think German speaking Teutonic knights would be more common in these areas or should I say a Royal King Tiger hidden in the shrubbery.

Nice work on the trees Richard, or should that be 'shrubbery'!

Thanks Graeme.
Got my pine trees painted. The two in front are previous trees that needed some medical attention. There will be bad weather and snow fall later.
IMG_20250124_160307.jpg Six solid days on these trees and still some tinkering to do. Test fitted the placement and have marked the spots with the unused tree trunks.

Cheers,
Wabble
