As yet, no one on here has mentioned this special day, so I thought I would.

Just got back from our village memorial after laying a poppy for my Great Uncle Jim. He was killed nr. Arras in August 1918.

Due to the current restrictions, only about twenty good folks were present. Isn't it strange how so few a number and in the rain, can make the whole thing so moving?

A young Scout played the 'Last Post'. Yep, not a dry eye present.

I sincerely hope all you good folks managed to spare a couple of minutes at 11.00am today to remember those who didn't come home.

Ron

I was in work on the farm today and on the way home when 11am came around. I pulled over in a lay-by and observed the 2 minute silence.

Proud to have served.

Just got back from my local war memorl after paying my respect to the fallen, laid my poppy cross, there were about 15 people there for the two minutes silence, then had catch with a ex Greenjack for 20 minutes.

I was painting skirting boards, so stopped for the two minutes. I was listening to “Planet rock” at the time., it plays some real dross, but is good to listen to while painting or DIY working. They obviously stopped for the requisite time, and came back up with “Brothers in arms” by Dire Straights. They are not a band I have ever taken much notice of, but I must say in this context it was just perfect, and an inspired choice.

A very important day to me. To remember the fallen and my brothers in arms.

Radio 2 did the same thing.

I'm actually sat watching the Festival of Remembrance (shown last night) as i type this :)

I paused for a while after posting on my Spy Ship thread to Chris. It was 6pm my time. I haven't been to a war memorial cemetery here...perhaps I should make a visit to Gods Little Acre in Cheras where the Commonwealth cemetery is located.

Richard.

I think GLA is in Batu Gajah in Perak State. The one in Cheras is the Commonwealth cemetery...my bad...which makes two a must visit.

Sunday I was home and paid my respect to old shipmates and did my 2 minutes at 11.
Today being the 11th, I will be again having another 2 minutes at 11
My utmost respect to those who have, those that still do, those that will and to those that made the ultimate sacrifice, stand down, duty is done.

Lee

I also will be returning to my local memorial at 11 to pay my 2 minutes respect to remember.
My remembrance flame bottle & flag to remind people of their sacrifice.

In Italy the remembrance day is Nov. 4th, date of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Kingdom surrender.
Here is a pic of the most important military shrine, not far from where I live, last home for more than 100.000 italian soldiers.Sacrario di Redipuglia.jpg
Almost every town has its own memorial. Here are two samples.

I went back to our little local memorial I attended on Sunday. I went over the words I'd written on Uncle Jim's wooden cross in waterproof ink.

There were a few folks present, plus a Tesco delivery man and two tractors (with drivers!)

Not many there, but nice to see people observing the two minutes silence.
