I will be starting this kit soon and I wanted to know if the floats on this were aluminium , these were very well used but the kreggsmarine and took quite a bashing so I want to add some chipping to give it a well used look

Also if they were aluminium would they have had an undercoat and what colour would that have been

Thanks

That will be a nice build Alan. I'm sure someone did one on here not that long ago, might be worth a search for tips or potential troublespots ;)

I've already built one Patrick but it was early on returning to the hobby and now I've learnt more I decided to have another crack at one because it is a fantastic kit and anyone who sakes about what large scale aircraft to have a go at this is always top of my list :)

It's A great kit Alan here's the link to my build back in 2012 as I presume you will know you need plenty of lead weights in those floats.http://www.scale-models.co.uk/community/threads/revell-1-32-arado-196a-3.13912/ good luck with the build.

Hi Alan, i agree it's a super kit, there were one or two builds in the 2012 GB i to made one, not my best work as i'm not a plain person.

But it dose build into a super kit, i'll be watching this one.

This was my first attempt and was about my fifth kit when I returned to the hobby View attachment 86216

I've got some silvering on the decals and at the time I thought the photo on the instructions looked good so I built it like that but I won't this time , I didn't bother with any weathering back then but now I know more I will add some I might even built a little launch for it but that will depend on being able to scratch build that :) View attachment 199239

They were metal. They did receive a primer/undercoat, at least early on.

"FLOATS: Aviation lacquer group 02 on all metal, 7106.27 being used as an undercoat......"

7106.27 was a yellow primer, though there was a green equivalent allowed (7102).

Cheers

Steve
