Looking very nice Barry.
Those paints, are they allowed to be sent by air-mail or are they on the no fly list as well. Being over here is a pain at times since the jobsworths started banning this that and the other from air transport...

Indeed. If only he could stock MRP as well but I suspect they are quite an investment. He does have some AKI goodies, The weathering pencils for instance. I will be using those for the first time shortly.

Hi Jim.
I glossed to seal the decals before the pin wash. I did use MRP varnish and when I have used a pin wash on stores where there were no decals I have done direct k to the paint. No problems.

I have been looking at some photos and I see some very characteristic staining in areas such as the fin which I plan to replicate. I will use MRP clear smoke for the carbon staining and I will try out the AK weathering pencils to do some red/ brown streaks among other effects.
The staining under the engines is from the gearbox oil (OX-26). This is a brown-yellow colour. Normally the engine gearbox is vented after every flight on the left side of the aircraft (little drain pipes you see) and this leaves some staining there. Also when the engines are shut down, under the centre just forward of the arrestor hook fuel is dumped so this also creates a staining in that area too. Sorry if i'm teaching you to suck eggs with all this lol
I have done a semi-matt coat, removed masking from metal areas including exhausts and sprayed the exhaust staining on the tail. As this is an operational aircraft in a combat zone I wanted a rather heavyish effect with the staining. That said I am debating whether I need to tone it down though. I will decide tonight.
I also have some more work on the tail pipes to do with metal powder. I did a wash with AK Exhaust Wash.

Not to heavy at all if you ask me. I have seen photos of the real aircraft where almost all of that huge fin is covered with soot.
