The rigging is complete and the boat is finished. I used eezeline glued with UHU G.P. glue. No underwater gear fitted as it obviously won't be seen.
The crew are mustered, so time to get out to sea and on patrol.

Thinking of being out on the Atlantic in that "cigar tube" of a boat, reminds me of the scene in "Das Boot" when the old man and Thomsan on the other boat are having words through the megaphone, as alternately, each boat dips below the waves and all but disappears from sight.........would be an interesting thing to try and duplicate 570........Watching from the next bed over, patient 358.

We nearly have a mutiny with the restless crews in the U. Boat Pens, so best get to sea!
As you folks will know, there are millions of ways to model seas. To me most are long winded, difficult, complicated and expensive.
I prefer the simple 'What's in the shed' and as has been called on here recently 'The Hillbilly Approach' (Love it) Don't get me wrong, the results other people achieve are great, I just like my model making as straight forward and fun as I can make it.
The base is a 20 summat mm sheet of polystyrene from our local tip. the thickness will allow me to 'Bury' the boat without it popping out of the bottom of the base.
Dig the boat in as you wish.
Seal the base with PVA first, then if required, shape some waves. I use any powdered aggregate I happen to have. This one is a pale grey floor grout. Yes, I know it looks white.
Mix to a stiff-ish consistency and spread all over the base. I use a paint scraper. Then form your waves as you like. Your choice.
Pack ice!....
That's it, you have the basic wave shape. Next, start to add a bit of colour

I don't waste my 'Good' paints on this sort of caper. These are great and just 99p for 120ml. Various colours.
Here's the first coat of well thinned blue. Liberally applied with a large flat headed brush and allowed to gather where it chooses. The more the paint gathers, the darker the shade.

Next, look at the model from various angles to see if the shape of the sea and waves could be improved.
If you are happy, start adding life to the seascape.
Highlight the waves with a bit of off white acrylics.

Once happy with the highlights on the waves, start getting bluerer. Also, paint some more different shades.
Final paint stage
Just check that all is well and you are happy with the colours and the general composition.
Next, time to bring the sea to life with some silicone.
