As I stated in my intro, this is my 1st model build in 20 odd yrs. I love the B-17 Flying Fortress. It is one of my favourite airplanes ever built, and the 'Memphis Belle' is probably the most famous aircraft of that period in history.

So here are a few pics of my progress so far. I know the picture quality ain't that great, and I will try to take better pics next time. Atleast you can't see my terrible paint job.:lol

Looking ok so far. The B-17 is a nice aircraft, especially the G series.

That is a fair old size isn't it????? I would have no where to put it lol. I am really interested in doing a B17 at some pint though so I will be following this with interest.

Wow a Fortress in 1/48th. I do model boats at 1/48th and they can be quite a size. You're doing well though, if you are still positive after masking so many windows you certainly have patience!

Thanks guys for your warm comments. Yeah it is alot bigger than I thought it would be, but my 1/350 HMS Illustrious is going to be even bigger :tongueout1::laughing:

Masking out all the windows was actually a lot of fun. I had never done it that way before but after reading some tips off another forum I found it really easy. Well except the Ball Turret. That was a nightmare

I have progressed this build to its final stages of painting, but I've yet to take any pictures. I will be doing that tomorrow, all being well, and then I will post them here for you to judge for your self.

Looks good so far andy, like graham ive always had a soft spot for a big scale fortress ever since seeing one hung from the ceiling in beatties in sheffield many moons ago (in fact that might be what set graham off too, he used to go in there as well!!) I dont know if it would be any use to you (not everyone has somewhere to spray thats ok or warm enough) but halfords acrylic grey primer in the aerosol is a great match for neutral grey straight out of the tin. cheers tony

Looking good there,I built one of these some time ago and big they certainly are!

Cheers

Coming on very nicely and not good for me as I have just seen the 'New Tool" Revell 1:72 box art of "little Miss Mischief" which apparently was rebuilt after flack damage from quite a few 'wreckers' to make her serviceable again. So parts of it are NMF and parts faded and scruffy Olive. I really don't want to be buying kits but seeing your build has set the old wants and needs argument going again lol

Thanks guys for your comments.

Fenlander, you just know you want to. Think of it as a xmas :newyear: pressie to your self. :yeahbaby:

Noooo, stop it lol.... Mmmm, maybe just about get away with that..........

thats a big Fort! Andy its looking great ca'nt wait to see the finish

This is looking very good and does make into a lovely model. I would also never have room for something like this so it's all the more interesting to see someone build such a model. I've only recently done figures in 1/48th so I still find it amazing that you are doing a four engined bomber in this scale.

Thanks. I'm half way through putting the decals on. Might be able to get it finished today. It is rather big, but I do like big models. 1/72 scale airplanes just don't cut it for me. Never have done. Unfortunately the misses won't allow me to have this hanging from our bedroom ceiling. :sobbing: Don't know why:rofl:, so it is going to hung from our sons bedroom. He just better not try touch it, is all I can say :bigmistake:

When I have finished my HMS Illustrious build, that defiantly will be going on a shelf in our bedroom. Along with my HMS Victory that I also have to build.

Well I've finally finished my 1st model. Took me about 5hrs today to finish off the decals. I can honestly say I really enjoyed doing this. OK, its not perfect by all means, but its a start, and like everyone says, you have to start somewhere.

Here are a few shots of the completed kit.

Looks great. Turned out a good build eh? I know i'd love to have something like that hanging from my ceiling. But like your wife i know what she'd say about that lol

Excellent build. It is a big beastie. Can Graham resist the temptation to get one. May have to add one of these to the stash. Job well done.
