discussion Revell 1/72 P47M/D...ish

I've got to the point with this one where I've had enough, to be honest.


The kit is a newish mould, and gets good reviews, so it went on my birthday list. My one must have had moulding issues though, as the sprues all had one half crisply turned out and the other end covered in flash and even misshapen. The cowling was especially bad. The box art shows ordinance that is not supplied, but offers drop tanks that t'internet says weren't used.


Anyway, it went together well enough, but my first attempt at the weird blue camo scheme was awful. I asked if anyone had any spare decals and Dubster72 stepped in - thanks again Patrick. This meant a removal of the paint and also the "spine" bit from the M model, to make it look like a D. Painting the yellow cowling was a nightmare, and in the end I bought a spray can from Wilko. Some of Patrick's decals disintegrated, but the important ones survived, and the national insignia came from the Revell kit (nice decals BTW).


The antenna broke off and I've lost the pitot tube, and also forgot to fit the light under the wing. The bombs are from an Academy P38.


I really must get better with the canopies. Dry fit first, etc. It's all still a learning experience for me.


Anyway, it has not diminished my love of the bubbletop P47.

Very nice Tony! You've done a much better job of that than my attempt at building the Hasegawa version - hence having the spare decals!

That's a good jug even though you had a few fit issues and de calling problems you gave got it looking very well indeed.

Looks great to me Tony , I cant see any problems with the canopy or anything else (obviously apart from the missing light under the starboard wing , easily fixed) . If youre a big fan of the jug the academy 1/48 kit is a really nice build and usually can be picked up fairly cheap , cheers tony

I did there 1/48 scale for the under a tenner GB that's not a bad kit either

Nice one, Tony. It may not be in the blue camo, but it's still a great scheme and the cowling looks great. The Academy P-38 must be the 1/72 Jug-modeller's spare parts box of choice - I cannibalised the drop tanks for mine!

Well done Tony, it came out looking nice, you did better than I would, when I have those kind of problems the bin usually looms so well done.
