So as the title says this is a Rolls-Royce 1920 Armoured Car by Roden
Never built anything from this company yet so this could be good or awful one or the other so first off we’ll give you some box art , sprues and the first page of the instructions
Looking at it this one would be better to be painted whilst still on the sprue as there is lots of intricate pieces all in different colours

Nice, think I saw a 1:72 version of this once, but not seen that scale, looks interesting.... (y)

So we begin with the construction of the engine as you can see I pre-paintedIMG_6874.webpIMG_6856.webp most of the parts Looks fairly straight forward unfortunately it wasn’t. I had numerous fit problems along with slightly misaligned holes and pins but I got there in the wnd with a presentable engine

Next I built the wheels and started adding items to the Right hand side of frame that will form the chassis of the vehicle

And finally joining the two frames together which was an absolute nightmare I was trying to force the other side onto these other pieces. Some of them started snapping off again so I had to stop re-glue them and leave them overnight and then try again. Finally I got the two sides together minus one piece that decided it was gonna part company with the rest of the build so I had to rebuild that piece. It’s in the tweezers at the moment setting before I try and fit it again it goes right at the front of the chassis

Usually Tamiya Cement will penetrate through the paint and secure the part if it doesn’t then I’ll just scrape away the paint where they’re going to be glued

Right apologies for the severe lack of updates. This has been due to illness and the temperature going through the 30° making modelling impossible as the glue and paint were drying before they were getting into the model so I’ve had to wait for it to cool down a bit.
Next step we continue the build of the chassis where we left it. I was adding that last bit to the front that has now been done and the rest of the chassis has been completed and was clamped into place whilst the glue dried before adding the front wheels just to see how they fitted See pictures below. We’re now ready to put the wheels on.
Paint used was Aqueous Arcrylic’s from Revelle and metalic marker pens from Gaahleri

Next we fit the wheels and start the bodywork and this is where we run into major problems because the bodywork will not go together without loads of gaps which needed filling that’s all the white areas you can see and it was also looks like it was too short cause I had to put an extension piece on to cover the engine radiators why this is required I have no idea but it just didn’t look right so I’ve got some plastic card and fabricated an extension. Once it’s all painted it will look all the same anyway. And why I bothered doing the interior? I have no idea either because once the turret & machine gun are added you can’t see anything anyway so you might as well not bother with the interior at all. It’s just there because it’s there, I know it’s there you know it’s there cause you can see from the construction, but once it’s finished it disappears.IMG_6975.webp

Adding the Turret and Machine gun this again will illustrate the amount of filler that was required as the turret also didn’t fit properly and I had to cut one of the lugs off at the bottom of it to actually get it to fit into the ring cause the ring was too small for the turret to accept
Up to this point this has been a reasonable model now it’s to generate it into an awful model. Everything you do now needs filling or modifying to fit
The instructions at this point are a joke as they don’t show you where pieces go just an arrow pointing into something but it doesn’t actually show theIMG_7071.webp piece in place. There are pieces that you don’t need that aren’t on the instructions yet they’re on the sprue but I’m just gonna crack on and get this finished and move on something else. Can I recommend this to anyone no I would not recommend this model. It’s just plain awful even the lenses for the lights are just a piece of clear acetate that you have to cut out using their markings as a guide to cut the circles. We’re talking about a 5 mm piece of acetate that you’ve got a cut circle out of and do it three times for the main lamps and two tiny pieces about 1 mm across for the side lamps on the side of the bodywork with hindsight you’re probably better off either with a whole punch make your own and for the little tiny ones you need a cutting punch and hammer
Anyway, my solution was to use Micro Kristal Klear for the tiny side light lensesIMG_7072.webpIMG_7073.webpIMG_7074.webpIMG_7075.webpIMG_7076.webpIMG_7077.webpIMG_7078.webp

Finishing up
So we finished building adding the lights and all the little bits that would got snapped off if you added them at the stage the instructions told you to add them & to add insult to injury there were no decals for this model so I thought sod it I’m just gonna clearcoat varnish it with acrylicIMG_7097.webp mate varnish and that’s it so here is the finish result.IMG_7098.webpIMG_7100.webpIMG_7104.webpIMG_7103.webpIMG_7102.webp
