discussion S model 1/72 3.7 cm PaK 36 Auf Renault UE build (Simon T tribute group build)

Hi all
As my tribute build I’m hoping to turn this....

into this....


There were a couple of versions of this, the illustrated one above and the box art one. As I have two kits in the box I’m hoping to make both. They will be built as gaming pieces, so finesse may sometimes be sacrificed to robustness.....

Here are the sprue shots....


Simple instruction sheet, for what is a simple vehicle....


PaK 36 sprue....clean moulding no discernible flash and very fine mould lines....


Renault UE sprue, again well moulded.


Huge decal sheet, this is for both vehicles LOL.....

If you are wondering how big this is, the cutting mat squares are 1 cm in size. the UE is smaller than a Bren carrier.....

I’ve never made an S model kit before, so this will be interesting. Not sure what will get upgraded yet, but I’ll work that out as I go along.....

Very tiny. Never heard of S-Models. ...... but a great idea which would have been right up Simon's street.

S-Model are very nice kits, well-detailed, just about perfect fit, quick to build and you almost always get two kits to a box. This one looks no different.

Apparently the Germans made over seven hundred of them John....mostly with the gun on the back end like the box art. The crew fired it from standing at the back, not on the vehicle :tongue-out3:

Just edited the header to get the vehicle designation right....autocorrect had changed “Auf” to “Audi” LOL.

Thanks Andrew. I have several others in the stash.....early French tanks for supporting my Normandy German troops......they are not that easy to get. I think I sourced these from Hong Kong.

Thanks Jakko, it certainly looks good on the sprue.....

My experience is that if the parts look good still on the sprue, the kit usually is too.

BTW, is there no etch with this one? I’ve built a number of S-Model kits and all of them had a small fret of etched brass parts with them.

Well it must have worked for them Tim , good cross country with those tracks then, and properly a cheaper option.

I have so wanted to build this in 1/35. Should be great fun in 1/72. Good luck Tim. Looking forward to seeing you do some armour.

P.S I have extensive walk around pictures of the PAK 36 if you need them for reference

Thanks Steve, that’s a really kind offer. I may well need them....I have a walk around of the UE, but not looked for much on the gun yet. Any images of the two together would be gratefully received, in either configuration. I have a couple of images, but not many and it would be good to see how the pivot was contrived....

This is my only picture of the UE



I would imagine the legs were strapped to the back and the chocks welding it to the front. Then it would be used like a static tank destroyer ie Stug, Jagpanther

I will have a look through my reference material to see what I can find
