Now here's something that is actually very unique to Australia, the word (name) is still used even today.

It’s a 1/9th scale of the most popular water cart that was ever made by Furphy & Sons from Shepparton, Victoria, Australia.

It’s a model of a number 4 Furphy Water Cart.

EVERYTHING on the model, started as a bit of raw material and had to be worked on, to achieve this finish.

Had to make a drawing to get everything in the right place, managed to find one in a Museum near me and took lot’s of photos and measurements and then home to do the drawing.

The end caps are cast resin copies that I had to make, I used a brass plaque for the original mould and just cast the rest from that rubber mould, the actual tank is just a bit of hollow bar Aluminium turned to size.
The wheels are lots of different bits of brass and a couple of bits of aluminium shaped to get that look of the original number 4 steel wheels and the timber had to be worked on a tad to achieve the shapes required.

All nuts and bolts are hand made in house out of Brass.

For those who don’t know what the word “:Furphy” means to an Aussie.

It is used to describe a bit of a ‘tall tale’ - ie, - you think it’s total B/S (bull$hit), — so it’s far better to use the words — “that’s a Furphy” — than outright calling the person a ‘bloody liar’.

By using the word Furphy, it saves you from get smacked in the mouth and having to go visit the dentist.

It all started during the First World War, as the troops were getting assemble at the Broadmeadows Army Camp in Victoria, the Furphy Water Carts were used to supply fresh drinking water for the troops, as the assembly camp was just another sheep paddock at Broadmeadows, Victoria.

So there were lots of stories about when they were going to be moving from the camp area, to head overseas to get killed.
Lot’s of troops used to gather around these Water Carts and a lot of B/S stories were very, very easily spread.

So as these tall tales grew in size, then the ‘officers’ started to call these rumours - Furphy’s.

End of history lesson for all that did not know ———————

Anyway have a look and see what you think of it —————

First pic is of the most famous photograph of a Furphy Water Cart with a Mr Robinson sitting on the Water Tank.

Then a photo of the cast Brass end cap that I used for the mould for the resin end caps.

Then a series of photo's showing a few other bits that required casting in resin followed by the actual model.
