Ships in Bottles?

Thread owner
It's back to the 'Endurance' model. I've had a change of heart - but for a very good reason, in my opinion, of course !
I realised when I gave this thread a name that it was going to be touch & go whether or not this model was going to end up in a bottle - hence the question mark in the title!

As the model developed I became dissatisfied with the level of detail I could achieve, bearing in mind that the whole shebang would need to be collapsible to be successful.
SO... I've abandoned the bottle bit!

I'll finish the model with within my capabilities and build it into a diorama! Please forgive the apparent subterfuge!

Here's the model to date.

For a start, I fixed the three masts so that they no longer hinge backwards. The spars are from split bamboo reduced to varying diameters by using a drawbar & glasspaper. For the standing rigging I've used 8 denier BLACK fly tie silk. I've made a start on the running rigging and will use different colour silks of the 8 denier variety. 8 denier equates to 0.05mm! - the thickness of 'fine human hair' according to Google!
For the sails, I used lightweight tissue moistened with thinned PVA and used a small sable brush to fix them to the spars. The sail plan matches a picture I am using as reference of the vessel stranded on the ice pack.

There are many more deck details and life boats yet to be added. Not least the funnel and associated vents.

I'll keep going for as long as my patience allows!

I'm tempted to joke that you've bottled out...

Looks a great model though.

Thank you, Steve/Pete
I think that your comment, Pete, is most apt. Another reason (excuse?) for bottling out is that I couldn't find a suitable bottle in the cellar! :)
