Hi,


I'm currently working on a vintage Polish motorcycle and would like to share my fun with you. SHL is not the top of engineering, but is a bit of polish motorisation history (long passed as there is no Polish brand anymore). I've based my build on 1/9 paper model, maintenance an repair manual, and lots of pictures from restoration and internet auctions of spares.


As my model is to be a scale replica, I had to use paper model kit with caution for it is much simplified. I came into contact with it's author and got lots of reference pictures (actually he contacted me when discovered my build on some Polish model forum - a bit flattering).

This is simply stunning. Scratch building at the highest possible standard and a sheer joy to watch. Many thanks for taking the time to show this to us all, it really is an inspiration to modellers everywhere and shows us just what can be built from basic materials.

Thank you for your kind words. Although the subject of my project is not very spectacular, making a large scale replica requires the most faithful reflection of the original. Talking about inspiration – it was Modelmaker, a member of this forum who inspired me to stretch my favourite scale up and produce a large scale motorcycle model. I wish him all the best, especially finishing his stunning Augusta.


And yes – I show the my builds to prove, that with little expense, compensated by great dose of zeal and some practice in handling of basic tools, combined with little experience in shaping different materials – one is really able to produce an extraordinary replica.


I used to say that my models are not toys and never made spinning propellers or similar parts, but I found joy in designing my own workable parts as this is much more difficult than simply sculpting bits in plastic or Milliput. That is why most of the details in this model are workable (working front suspension, steering, springing hand brake and clutch). The plan is to make kick-starter, gear box, working chain drive (Top Studio product), foot brake and rubber tires.

I'am very happy to announce that the engine is ready. After several weeks of struggle I finally made it. However macro mode pictures show that I still need to clean up some excess glue (especially around PZL logo), but generally I'm proud of it as gear box and kick starter are "working".

Now you made me shy... I really apreciate your comments. Having such an audience really motivates to do the best and pick up even more ambitious projects. This build is only a warm up before a serious project of building 1/9 sale replica of Morgan three wheeler with Matchless air-cooled engine.


Coming back to SHL, now you are up to date with the build, as the engine was finished last night. I'll keep you posted on regular basis from now on. As you might see above, most parts are ready. I just need to paint and asemble the 'kit' I've prepared. Next step will be to cast the engine in resin, and to prepare the tyre master (I plan to cast the tyres in soft, black rubber).

Peter, I am sure that most of the guys and gals on here will agree when I say this: 90% are just kit makers (very good mind) with the odd scratch making thrown in here and here, what you are doing is not just modelling but engineering, almost like the model steam guys that scratch make the engines etc. I have the upmost admiration for people like yourself and others that are capable of these ventures. Superb detailing and a wonder to look at.
