Jesus, I mean, I'm gobsmacked. That truly is outstanding.

yes it is amazing, it took 3 modellers 2 years to do, just shows it takes time to make perfection

I must agree with those who disagree...

It is a fine piece of work with great detail, but at the same time it's totally sterile and has no 'life'. I think the faces are rather comical. There is not a speck of mud on kit or uniforms - everything is laid out just so, and these people are fighting for their lives at close quarters. The wooden building has but a few pieces of glass missing, not a single dink in the woodwork, yet a disabled tank is within feet of the structure. The tree stump which presumably has been blasted by shell fire has no splintered limbs and I would suggest there should be remnants of it hanging loose - or embedded in the shack walls!

Sorry, but it doesn't work for me.

As to giving up and I know it's all tongue in cheek, but remember there will always be people better, or not as good at things as yourselves. Everyone has their own interpretation of how they perceive a diorama should look like when finished. Never try and copy, everyone has their own style and certainly never ever think you couldn't do as good. To think thus is bad for the spirit!

Yer' man here has his ideas. It's just not how I would approach the subject and the above is just how me, I, myself, feel it's lacking a tad....At the end of the day it's his model and that's all that matters.

I feel better for that..

Here is my take on it - yet that work is outstanding and I will in all likelyhood never reach that standerd....BUT I am OK with that. I think in the past few years my models have steadly become better with all I learn.\Granted I hit a dud now and then but that is good to keep one humble and on your toes to try imporve on every next model...even if just a little.

Modling should be fun afterall.

There are a few guys at my IPMS that I try to beat in build quality, I have not got there yet but maybe oneday I will reach their skill level.

As said above, I wonder if these guys who are absolutely on the pinicle of theis game have anything to really "reach for" it all their models are 100% perfect all the time.

So to answer your question, NO do not give up modling, even if others are better than you. so what?

Are you going to stop driving even though Schoemacer is a better driver than you....no.

There will always be someone who is better at something , that is just life :-)

Sheesh! Everybody on this forum is capable of producing better work than me. Does that stop me or put me off? Hell no!
I do this modelling stuff 'cos I like it - not to be the best, or to show off better skills than others. Sure, I want to improve so I'll look at things like this to see what I can maybe learn. Just because I'll never be as good as that doesn't matter one tiny little bit!

Sorry guys, but talking of giving up just 'cos you've seen summat better than you've achieved so far is just plain daft!
I think most folks are just kidding about giving up the hobby Dave, such reactions are in jest I'm sure, I certainly know I have no intentions of letting it go. Seeing excellence in others work only inspires me to do better {though I always revert back to my own style} Problem with me is finding time {that all precious commodity} hence why I'm such a slow poke............Jim:)

Very true Jim. We all aspire to achieve a higher standard. Trouble is, folks see something like the subject of this thread and do try and copy.....Usually with frustrating results. We all have our own modelling methods and to try and change in mid stream based on someone else's model never works. Give 10 modellers a Tiger tank and each model will be finished differently....and long may it stay so.

So, boy's and girl, view, admire and learn from other works, but keep with your own method and way of doing things.

Best wishes,

Butch Cassidy

Actually it was just a comment about how good that was, I'm not really going to give up over how good that is.

it just inspires us to do and lean more, and just give it all way as I will never get to that point of my work,I,m done lol with all that just lost for words, :(

Seeing pictures of dioramas like these serve as inspiration, there is no doubt that they are superb in their own way and their creators should be justly proud. There is no way that I shall turn really green with envy because although I aspire to be that good, I could never reach those dizzy heights of perfection, after all I've dabbled in sticking oil paints to a canvas in the past but there is no chance I could ever equal the talents of rembrant, van Goch or even that geezer that laid on his back and painted ceilings :)

That diorama is truly amazing. What a fantastic piece of work.

I've never done I diorama, still just getting comfortable with weathering, PE, pin washes etc TBH. However, I think in the long term I would like to give it a go.

Can anyone give me a link to a good 'dioramas for beginners' video? I would like to see what is involved.

now boys and girls stop this. You are all good at what you do and pull your selves, together so what if his painting are better than your does he have fun on that web site like we do here. You have great models to so stop this idea of quiting and get on with it.:D:D:D:D
