I use Tamiya acrylic paints, and I want to know is there something I can use to remove or cover skin oil with out damaging the paint underneath? Can any one help?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by skin oil but most solvents such as simple turpentine or turps substitute or even enamel paint thinners will disolve oils without affecting the acrylic. It would be best to try it on a sample piece first though, just to be sure.

As above. If you actually have a finger print in your paint surface you will have to buff it out,you'll probably need to at least touch up the area.

I think Tamiya paints are the worst for showing finger prints, but all acrylics, especially mat, are prone to it. If you have done the basic painting, give it a coat of Klear or similar to protect the paint as soon as you can before moving on to the next stage. Prevention is always better than cure.

I think it may disappear under the klear coat - mine has done this before and as the gloss coat "soaks" into nthe matt finish it all becomes one tone.

Xylol removes skin oil very effectivly. Unfortunatly it removes paint even better!!!

Rule #1 always remember to wash hands before picking up bits of kit.

Rule #2 NEVER eat chocolate whilst building a plastic kit.

Rule #3 Never touch the paintwork until it is under some form of clear coat!

(Not a very healthy idea, but most of lifes small pleasures will get you in the end. I some times have a cloth with a drop or to xylol on and wipe my finger tips with it as needed. It does remove all traces of swety finger syndrom. HOWEVER Always use a hand cream afterwards as I said it does remove the fatty oils from your skin. )

Me niether Ray, thats why I have the degreaser at the ready, Crisps are an other no no. Not only fatty fingerprints but crumbs all over the place. Reaks havok with the paint process :-/

I just give my hands a good wash with soap and water! It works for me but I do try to handle the model as little as possible until the paint is cured and sealed.

Ya, I am normally pretty good with keeping skin oil off paint, I just got complacent this time...
