You been drinking Laurie, rather deep words there.
No Si I am an optimist to my roots.

The human race is incredible for what it can do. It is also incredible for what a minority can try to do to dislocate the basic good o most humans.

An example. Ebola. It looked as though it would ravage the world. Humans are late to wake up and recognize that a problem has to be solved. But once the penny has dropped the response is just incredible. Ebola has been wiped out by human means both in the lab and on the ground by some of the most courageous people on this earth.

Right of the line is a phrase normally reserved for those in military conflict. Those people who went to Africa, doctors and nurses. They were Right of the Line. They took the lead in the most dangerous situation.

I just hate pessimism it kills all in its path.

O M G ! I just had a major epiphany !!! I'm a Liberal now:) :) :) :) :) Why worry about fate? It's in the hands of our patriotic, fully competent, no-nonsense - uh - Govt........yeah that's it!.....and since our sovereignty is so aggressively defended by our brave and wholesome politicians:rolleyes: I shall stroll my gardens in sheer stress free bliss and smell the sweet aroma of the wildflowers, never to fret the future again:) For you see, every thing is alright now that my congressman has assured me all is just peachy - keen. Is that screwball a resident of Manhattan? I'm sure I passed him by somewhere near China town.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought 'oh dear' then i saw the OP's picture.

Very funny and comparatively harmless.

We didn't even get off the first page befor the partly political broadcast started.

This forum is not the place for it.

Nor is it the place for 'quibbling '. That's what private messages are for.

Play nicely.

Just having a bit of fun Ian, though I can be a bit dark at times, after all we are all intelligent adults and some political banter now and then does no harm as long as it doesn't get heated. Govt. is not a good subject for me since I have absolutely no confidence in any political party to do what's right for the country and it's good, honest and hard working citizens. You see human nature always intercedes once the pols get into office and all their "sincere" promises and platitudes go out the window and they succumb to greed, narcissism and elitism. To be fair, my congressman didn't have much time for me, he is a very busy man what with tennis in the Hamptons and polo season starting up in Martha's Vineyard. Admittedly I too have my own dalliances, such as making sure I have enough firewood not to freeze to death this winter:D

Well, I invite you all to come see how things are dome in Africa. We had the old school guys like Mandela that truly wanted and got freedom for all 20 odd years ago. Now the last few years it is a "get all we can before we get out and screw the rest" attitude from the gov.

Billions have gone missing, noone ever is punnished, heck the prez got upgrades to his house worth 1/4 Bill ZAR and does not have to pay a cent as "he didn't know about the expences"

So sad to hear Theuns, Welcome to "Politics American Style" I deeply regret our virus reaching your shores:( What was once "The Jewel" of the African continent has fallen to the mighty {but fragile gas giant} of political correctness which only needs the pin prick of common sense to pop. Sadly we've not the brave knight to wield such a weapon............or do weo_O

I would say it has been like that for dacades here in Africa, almost all of the former colonial countries have gone the same route. They fought for freedom, got it and then only enrich themselves at the great cost of the masses.

They might have had good intentions in the biginning but absolute power corrupst absolutely.

Actually I have gained a lot of information from this thread. Despite the fact that it is political in many respects it is not confrontational. Just shows that politics can be discussed in a good humour and manner.

Always been surprised that forums and people veer away from one of the important things of our lives. Politics is the policies we adopt to run our lives. Many decry the Houses of Parliament but debates are made in the best of ways. Question time serious and a bit of fun very British. Politics at its best. Better than those concerns around the World where all sit miserably looking at each other without any fun.

Also from this thread I have had a good number of burst of laughter. At times just damn funny.

Very insightful Laurie, politics need not be frowned upon on the site as long as it is non-confrontational and respectful {of each other - politicians excluded} After all we're only bricks in the wall. Seems like things are boiling down to the basics now - good vs evil - the civilized world vs the savage beast - national borders dissolving before our eyes, all happening in rapid succession. The "Quickening" it's called by our more religious friends, never thought much of such utterings.. but now? I just don't knowo_O.... Oh!...saw one of those, correct me if I'm wrong - Questions to the PM by the House of Commons? - or some such. Very lively and boisterous, almost seemed a bit fun. Very unlike our House and Senate snooze fests, with one totally boring and obtuse jackass after another muzzling up to the trough, pontificating from their ivory towers, condescending down to us lowly unwashed vermin who in reality they despise:cool:

Question time for me is great fun. No appreciated is that the speaker, providing the Speaker Of The Commons agrees, can be interrupted by another MP to disagree or not.

History is here? I know of no other political place where there is seating left and right. Most places have a semi circle forum. Goes back to Cromwellian times where Lords and MPs sported swords and daggers in their belt.

The width between left and right gave those on each side sword (and dagger) room. Now it is only words and steam. That is except for Michael Heseltine ( known as Tarzan) Grabbed the Mace in some unholy debate and thrust it in th air. Loved it. Michael, still with us, had determination and spirit both of which are necessary in leaders.

Laurie

Funny, our two systems. In ours you're stuck with a dangerous despot for four years at a clip, in your's you can throw the bum out but that can create constant chaos and confusion. Both have worked fantastically for centuries but the people {pols} have changed for the worst. Both forms of govt. require people of merit and virtue, otherwise it could be twisted and mangled into a grotesque apparition.

Other forms of so-called "govt" need no vieling for there is no mistaking their tyranny. Whom ever it was that said communism is dead better check himself for a pulse............Jim:)
