Built this along side the shilka, no box or spru shots in fact had to troll the net to find out what it was box and build detritus went in the recycling bin ages ago ,typical hobbyboss fare goes together as good as any body else's bit of a no brainer really.
20240616_175557.jpg
Primer was mig one shot squirted at the same time as the shilka20240617_083117.jpg
Pre shade highlights were also sprayed at same time as the shilka.

Once again the green on the shilka was flushed through and the 4B0 squirted at this one paint was thinned with mig transparator makes the paint more translucent helping to stay in touch with the pre shade highlights slightly sheene apparently satin finish didn't know but you can get a flat version as well ,wouldnt recommend it personally because its one of thoes one mans poison things but I like the product.

Well this was the homework I purchased the book and oil's at least a couple of years ago ,gave it a quick flick through and put it in storage (cupboard),

I've quite a few reference books especially 72nd armour modelling not to copy but enjoy reading and drawing inspiration from the pics ,I take in a lot of the how to's but as we all know it dont work that way but does help you to find your own way/technique ,so there's a lot of pages of blah blah blah but found a couple of answers to what I wanted to know. So I'm now armed and dangerous so yay or oops...............your find out soon enough. Dave

That's a fine paint job. Some really nice variation. Look forward to the oil work.

Right then this oil paint, oil blob pait/render technique dont know what I expected but and I admit I havent tried that hard but didn't get what I was hoping for(I dont know either)

The scratches and dinks were put on first and looking now don't seem right ,it has altered the paint tone though perhaps I'll give it a chance next time.
So after the shilka was done with basically just a dark brown oil brusher with this one im going back to my usual method/bodge way of stumbling through, usually I work from upper to lower getting bored by the time I reach the running gear and tracks so thought I'd get the worst of the bottom half done first.
This is WIP have started on the one side only so a shot of the other side as a before

My favourite modeling product

Never lined a panel with it but its bloody excellent at changing the tone/weathering your paint work ,still all WIP will report back when there's more to show. Dave

Excellent Dave.I bought one last year cheap on Amazon. In the cupboard of doom with all my other stuff.I bought another similar model which looks bit like a Renault Ft17.Cannot remember the type.
Great work mate.

Thanks guys as I said WIP long way to go this 35th stuff can get quite involved , cripes what I've done so far on this one side would have done a couple of 72nder's in time effort and materials. Dave
Richard did you build it ,if yes why is it on the shelf of doom ,if no get it out and dive in as we've spoken about before depends on how you see finished ive quite a few with no paint but the build has pushed me and I consider it finished ,no desire to show it paint but have enjoyed what I've done. Dave

Still unmade Dave.Serious loss of mojo. Then again no bench time as Bad attack of Sciatica has stopped me for sitting for a decent ammount of time Im quite keen on doing another 1.72nd Churchill.Ordered a couple of Mark 3s from Jadlam and the vintage Hasegawa Mark 1 which id like to do as a Dieppe one.Ordered some wading stacks from Milicast and some decals.Hoping it might ignite my enthusiasm.

Apart from the tracks calling the two sides done
20240711_184544.jpg20240711_184200.jpghave started to put the chips/dinks/scratches on the front and back but then as usual got side tracked started a couple of the panels on the engine deck
20240711_200035.jpg
You can see the little painted dinks etc on the original colour and how much that changes when I've done my thing. Got the house to myself for the next few days so will bash on only responsibility being to walk the dog ,oh also whilst cleaning out the overloaded album on the phone found a box top shot

It doesn't look that big in the box art but I'll get a pic of it along side the shilka it must have been bit of a behemoth. Dave

Having arrived earlier than usual Dave I thought I can enjoy the progress, but it's nearly done
Like the idea of no track guards . Are those single link tracks as expected from HB.
Off too see what this mig transparator is all about .Nice esp in 4 BO :nerd:

Morning John as to our previous conversation just got back from walking the dog he's only little so me and him only go as far as suits wasn't to bad got about without to much trouble ,we always go on the same walk so he just bashes on comming back every now and then to make sure I'm OK and still coming :smiling6:.
Nice little kit no problems fell together ,the tracks were individual links but you know me its whatsit the box so just bloody get on with em I built the whole run in one and wrapped the whole thing ,I never fit from bottom and join at the top why? Any problems are there to be seen ,I I alway make sure the drive sprocket has a tooth at twelve o'clock both sides ,then working from there make sure I've enough length to wrap round down and half way along the bottom then back the other way you can add what sag you want between the return rollers wrap round down and join underneath.

I personally like the transparator especially if you pre highlight like I've done above ,it thins the paint and makes it less opaque if your carefull you can achieve that Nice semi transparant look possibly easier to achieve with thinned lacquer paints but gives you a boot up with acrylics. As I said I PERSONALLY like using it ,its what I DO ,no doubt there will be some discussion about this home brew etc but I wouldn't stop you from giving it a go if I can use it you know you can. Thanks for looking in plenty more to come need to finish 72nd is calling:tongue-out3:. Dave

Dave,
What are you worrying about, that is the finish that you will get. To add verticle streaks you use a flat soft brush dampened with white spirit and stroke from top to bottom of the area you are working in. This is particulary good on rivet detail.
Keep going it looks superb.
Mike.
(Just off to buy a bottle of Panel Line Accent Color)

Watcha Mike think we've got our lines crossed the transparator makes your finish coat less opaque making your pre highlights come through ,easier to do with thinners and lacquer paint ,it gives you a foot up with the acrylic paint. I thought streaking on the undercarriage was ok as well that was just a dot of oil paint dragged down with a brush lightly aspirated with white spirit(read that somewhere sounds good). More expensive than the others the tamiya product(panel liner) is far superior to the others and lasts for ages got mine from china/Hong-Kong years ago when it first came out ,weren't allowed to import it because the labeling was not up to our h and e or some rubbish ive a feeling tet had the same problems always got that sent over on the slow boat till they changed the label. Blimy this 35th stuff drags on just as I think that will do i think what about a little bit of that or this and so it goes on(and on and on)I dont want to drop off and do something else because its doubtfully I'd ever come back and finish it. Still got the front bit to do ,haven't a clue what the hole is all about but shows it even on the painting guide. Top and rear about done
