I'll hold me hands up and say not my bag but for thoes that are interested there's a good in box review on the modeling news page ,some actual one's in use ,spru shots ,and some built up ones. Dave

Just looked in on the modeling news web page who's up for a DUKW in 1/35th ,from I love kits. Should think it'll build into quite a beast. Dave

Haven't found that one yet, but I've wanted to do one for a long time now Dave.
..... Only seen the old Airfix one in the past, and they went for silly money,on old evil bay :anguished:,
So I'll definitely be up for this... Price depending of course :smiling3:

Hmmmm,I make that to be about £57 in Devonian Groats... A bit rich for me I'm afraid :sad-face:

Never seen a trailer before, was that common? 310+ parts, PE & 'hollow' rubber tyres
Dave

If I remember correctly the modeling news web page was advertising free but what ever the reason took on the advertising to be able to continue ,along with our own Mr Wards continual contributions i find it a excellent place to find out whats coming in the future plus there are some outstanding SBS builds featured on there.

That was the photo I mainly wanted to post so I could point out the rectangular holes in the ribs on the sides. Those are a post-war feature, for drainage, so technically this kit is not correct for what most people will portray it as :)

Mainly in the Pacific, AFAIK. I don’t recall photos of any in Europe, but I’m not exactly an expert on the subject. Though I will end up building one eventually, for local history reasons:

If you remember the wrecked Sd.Kfz. 7 I built last year, this is the same square that that one was in, approximately where the gap is in the rearmost row of DUKWs in the photo above :)

Noticeable that some vehicles have wheel covers, others don't - just wear and tear, or a real reason?
Dave

....also not seen rear swamp guard installed on many. 'A' frame crane used to load/unload is as uncommon.

Wheel skirts likely a maint. issue. Once removed, a PITA to put them back on. Prolly to lessen drag in the water.

Thanks Dave... it looks a beast!
I've actually done a 3D print of the beast
terrapin1.jpg
Although I've not primed, or asembled it!
It was a poor design - a skid steerer with no suspension, difficult to control brom the midships steering wheel - it was also very tall, difficult to access and with a split cargo area. I think you can see traces of the ancestor of the Stalwart!

I don’t know … one has the front wheel cover off for repairs, cleaning, some other reason, another clearly for repairs. Maybe the one at right front, without covers on the rear wheels, is also being repaired or cleaned? All of these were used as public transport on flooded Walcheren, and so would encounter underwater obstacles and stuff on a regular basis:

What vehicle is this?

As Dave said, it’s a Terrapin. Resicast has a 1:35 scale kit of it — get it while you can, as I did recently, before the company is closed down.
