Steve's Revell 1/48 Mosquito B Mk.IV

Bit late into this Steve. Sprue shots looked good but then the fit issue of an older Revell kit reared it's ugly head. You're making very good progress, taming the beast. I do like the unusualness of those half invasion stripes.

Some positive progress at last chaps. Just to highlight some of the fit issues that I have had to deal with. Firstly this is a picture of the wing pushed up tight against the fuzz and highlights the poor fit as you can see the light shining through.

Next up where the engine cowlings/narcelles come together at the back of the wing it is supposed to be a smooth flat join. You can see that despite my best efforts and much sanding and messing this is the best I could achieve and still have a poor fit.

So the easy way out for this was to cut and fit some plastic card onto the narcelle tops to make a neat finish.

So having done as much filling and sanding of the engine and cowlings it was time to fil it all together.

Revell do give you some good strong wing fittings which really aid the wing fitting process but non the less with the poor fit of the wing I decided to epoxy the wings on and then just fill any gaps that remained at the end. First I marked out where the wing would fit on the fuzz and then roughed up the surface to act as a good key for the epoxy.

And then fitted the wings. So with the rudder and elevators now fitted this is where I am at. We have a Mozzie.

Next job is fit and mask the canopy and glass house nose, mask off and get some primer on. Thanks for following.

You’re doing a great job with this one Steve, it looks really hard work but you are slowly taming it 👍

Geoff.

Hi mate as you know I am not a wingy builder but that looks like a really disappointing kit. Given the big gaps have you checked it hasn't had a knock on effect of the fit of the canopy? That said you are doing a great job of putting it together.

A dry fit of the canopy isnt showing up any major issues Paul, Ill keep you posted though.
Great work, makes me mad to see they still sell kits like that. Goodluck
Cheers Steve. I agree.

It is looking like you have tamed it - or at least well on the way to doing so. It’s going to be a good size as well.

Sorry about the slow progress chaps. Here is the latest
First up canopy side windows needed to be glued onto the main canopy and then masked up.
IMGP0037.webp
Then when I came to fit the canopy the pilots seat was too high and was fouling on the canopy so had to take about 3mm off the top and reshape the sides.
IMGP0034.webp
Then the canopy and front glass dome were glued on.
IMGP0035.webp
IMGP0036.webp
then I have made up some bombs and other bits including the bomb bay doors. These came as a single closed bay piece but I have chosen the open bay option so these have been cut in half.

Next stage is primer and paint.

Good progress given the the problems that seem to be blighting his, I’m betting that you will run into something else and fix it.
