Hi all I was given this and the Bismark for a Christmas pressie from my daughter and son I bought what i thought was the pe for this kit (which cost more than the kit and I now discover is still not the full pe for it, i will buy the rest but just have to wait a bit) so I was thinking I quite like the pics by Eduard and pontos (others are availiable) of the pe on the finished ship with no paint on it and was thinking maybe I would do that with just a slight difference being I would weather the pe but leave it unpainted. What do you all think, I quite like the pe showing I think it adds interest(i know it's not very accurate but let's face it I'm pretty rubbish with this modelling lark and I very seldom build as per the instructions anyway.
So here is my start on this build

Made a start on the decking (Will be using pastels for the decking this is just the base coat.

Nice start Ken.
As for the PE I like to see it painted, but with your way at least you'll be able to see what the extra costs went on, and I know it will look good, your a good modeler.

Well im a bit annoyed with eduard.
I started putting the pe portholes on and got 10 done and thought hang on theres something wrong here ( they give you 50 pe portholes) counted down one side theres 63 (it does say optional parts) optional or not they should at least supply enough for the job. And now im thinking about it what about all the pprtholes on the super structure.
When i built the warspite i had loads of parts left on tge sprue that wernt mentioned anywhere in tge instructions ive since discovered they were ment to be portholes they look a bit different to the ones eduard supply but maybe i will use them.
I managed to get the portholes off without damaging the paintwork too much. As i say maybe i will try the warspite ones will have a count up and see if theres enough.

Hi all well I've done the decking and weathered the hull.

I'm surprised how much bigger this is than the warspite she also quite a bit wider.

I am a newbie from MM and I have strong family connections to the navy during WWII. I would very much like to tag along and see how this build ends up. If its anything like the Warspite is going to be a cracker. Great stuff

Thanks Steve, we seem to be getting a lot of mm members here are they closing or disbanding whatever seems a shame.
What you see there is a cut down version of the warspite dio it had led lit explosions and forced perspective it was huge and was displayed in the local library I had to resize it when it came back as they no longer had room for it the build is on here (warspite gets a few scars) I like to put my models on some sort of base as I think they look better.
I only got back onto kit modelling 4 yrs ago before that I just scratch built ships but in those 4 yrs I've built 200 plus kits ( it would take me 18 months to scratch build a ship can you see why I like kit builds)

Hi Ken
Good start on KGV. Looking forward to seeing it develop. Warspite was a WW1 design, and KGV was brand new when she engaged Bismarck, hence to size and shape differences...
Cheers
Tim
PS MM guys are here because we were shut down with three days notice, we needed a new home, and this site is friendly and welcoming.

Hi Ken
I was looking in on your big Citroen earlier (well impressed) and commented that you seemed to be into all sorts. Now up you pop with a big ship. The PE adds a whole extra level of detail although the port hole shortage is odd to say the least. Cracking job so far and another big display place to find.
Yes the Military Modelling forum is closing. We had 3 days notice so we migrated here. You were recommended as friendly, welcoming with some great modellers. They were right too. Sorry if we have swamped the forum a bit but we are enjoying our new home.
Looking forward to the final reveal of the KGV.

Another refugee having stroll around the forum .
Mind if I join in a watch this. Modelling in this scale is always intriguing, do you use any visual aids ?

More the merrier I have a clip on magnifier for some of the small pe (Couldn't do it without some of the pe is only 1mm) personally I hate pe, but it does make a huge difference to a finished build.

Hi Ken
Progressing nicely but still a way to go I guess. This level of detail is very time consuming.

Hi all well the rest of the eduard pe has arrived now I have to cut off all the little boxes I just spent ages painting on the decks also the blast shields and all the doors off all the superstructure

Thread owner
Hi all well I've added a miniscule amount of the huge amount of pe to this and I've realised someone made a big mistake how do you open these doors.

Encase you can't see from the pics there is a box about 1 mill in font of a 3 mill door

Good progress, looks like a slow burner with all that PE....worth the long haul though.
