Started Building this at the start of the year and still working on it but it is getting there slowly.

So here's the initial build using some Eduard PE and the Tamiya metal barrel.

The model was base coated with Tamiya hull red then the base yellow and chipped back using the Hairspray technique.

So since I seem to have developed a hatred for rubber band tracks I purchased some Friul metal tracks.

Hi Paul my names Cavan I haven't posted on the forum in a while and thanks for the kind words. Yes it's not far from finished just working on some kit to go onto the back while I'm in Canada till September (obviously didn't fly with the tank lol) then when I get back really just the side panels to go and a few little bits here and there.

Your hairspray technique (as Paul refers to above) has produced some great results. It has been illustrated before on the forum with varying degrees of success, do you have any special technique you like to share? Or is it simply a case of practice.

Hi I have found that if you do a few things it goes okay (most of the time )

- protect the colour your chipping back to with a decent satin varnish.
- spray the hair spray into the lid then put this into your airbrush.
- wait for the hairspray to fully dry (seems to take longer than you would think).
- then apply then next colour or colours of paint.
- apply hot/boiled water to the area you want to chip and let it soak in.
-use a stiff brush dipped in hot water and gently chip away.

I just added the same model to my stash for my planned German lineup and I will surely use your build as inspiration!
I've only used Friulmodel tracks once, very recently for my King Tiger, but after assembling those tracks it feels wrong to use those rubber bands again so I might go Friulmodel again...?
I wish they weren't so expensive when you factor in postage as well, but such is life I guess

I'm with you on the cost of the tracks almost if not more than most actual models . eBay seems to be a good place to get tracks and PE only problem is you have to get them when they are up as you never know if they will be on there again.

€30 + €12 p&p is steep and often, as you say, as expensive or more than the actual model. One way would be to plan ahead and order a couple of sets at the same time and thus save some on p&p - but it's still a fair chunk of money.

Regarding PE, I've just started to play with homemade stuff (I make my own circuit boards at home normally anyway) and it was as easy to etch just bare brass - but it takes a fair bit of time drawing the bits you want to be honest and if you buy the brass sheets from a model store it's going to be expensive regardless...

But in the end of the day it's only money, and you don't tell people how much you actually spend on building a scale model

I've tried many chipping techniques but not the hairspray one. A couple more questions, is the hairspray too thick to shoot through the AB? Also, what do you clean the AB with afterward - reamer or is AB cleaner enough?

Now a question regarding the jagdpanzer - is it an Ardennes vehicle?

Hi Paul
With regards to using hair spray through the air brush I haven't had any trouble and didn't need to thin it.

I use an Iwata revolution br and after use I just wipe it out then spray two lots of vallejo airbrush cleaner haven't had to strip it in a long time and sprays well every time.

Well that's me back in the UK so back on with the build started work on the side panels and ordered a brass plaque while I was away.

I have to say I'm very impressed with the outcome of this build you have created.
The chipping effect and camo have really come alive and looks very realistic indeed.
I have this kit in the mix at the moment
I have not gone for the metal tracks, however I do have a set of tracks that are Indi and more realistic than the Tamiya ones ( I found the band tracks a little tight and no real place for a decent sag.
I must get back to it sometime soon.

Here's the finished model looking back there's a few things I'd change but still my best to date so happy with it onto the next.

Also just noticed I never put the antenna on I'll do that this weekend lol.
