OK, then. The Panzer IV is done! (except for a final flat coat... waiting on thinner.)

Here are my thoughts on this kit.

First, it is old. 1975 old. What does that mean? Not a thing! To me anyway. Even though this is an old kit, it still holds up well. I guess there are dimensional issues, but I think that has more to do with the fact that originally this kit was designed to be filled with batteries and a motor so one could run it across the floor. True, it doesn't have the crisp detail of modern kits, but keeping in mind that it is a 40 year old mold... I can live with it. And since these kits are generally pretty cheap, one could buy one and practice some scratch building and simple modifications and turn out a really nice finished product.

Second, in typical Tamiya fashion, it fits together exactly as it should. I didn't have to monkey around with anything. It fit together perfectly.

Third, the instructions are spot on. No surprises.

I don't know if anyone reading this has been following my YouTube channel series on this build, but I mention early on that it is a stellar kit for beginners. No issues to deal with. Easy to build. Some halfway decent figures to liven the kit up little and add some scale. I built this kit for two reasons, one being an attempt at a tutorial for beginners.

The other reason I chose this kit, is I have never built a German vehicle in early war markings and grey paint.

So, overall, I really enjoyed this project. It is a kit that I always wanted when I was in school, but could never find one.

Nice one. Looks lovely!

The tracks are very well painted with some interesting details ;)

Well done!

That is great work Brett.

The Early Pz IV looks excellent especially as it has a crew. Fantastic result from a not-so-new kit which goes to show what can be done with a bit of care and attention.

Great stuff

One small thing - I think a little more light on the front of the model would have helped. It's just that little bit dark

Cheers

Paul

I do real like this one Brett, ;)

and I have been looking at it for my next build, glad to hear no major problems,

nice clean type of build with very good paint, work,do have to say agree with Paul,

the top panels would be a little lighter were the sun hits, :D

Looks great i especially like the paint overhaul and the exhaust I have one in the stash somewhere. I'd like to take a look at your video on YouTube if you would be kind enough to post a link. Cheers John

That's a great looking PIV Brett , I've built four of these and I agree totally with your views on the kit and it's excellent for a beginner:)

I did this kit and have to agree, the dimensions are off, but as you say a delight to build with no fit issues or nasty surprises, just an easy kit.

Great work Brett, lovely work, subtle yet detailed-if that makes any sense o_O

very nice

i did this a year or two ago and i couldnt agree more, lovely kit that goes together with no drama

Great job Brett............ I like it a lot............. I have an equally old Italeri kit of the Panxer IV , and one day I may even build it. :)

Wow. Thanks everybody.

As for the lighting in my photo, I generally prefer to take the photos during the day because I have a row of huge windows behind me. All I have to do is open the blinds and plenty of sunlight comes through. But, I took the photos last night and only had my desk lights to work with. I am going to retake the pics, but I was champing at the bit last night to do it.

Monica, I agree on the upper surface fading. This is the first grey vehicle I have ever done, and was a bit timid on the weathering. i plan on doing more in grey, so hopefully I will get it... eventually. :D

And here is a link to my YouTube channel. Subscribe if you like. I am going to be posting all of the models I build, do some reviews with builds, techniques and tools, you name it. I am going to be focusing on beginners (since I am intermediate at best,) and post my learning process as I try new and/or different stuff.

The whole series on the Panzer IV is posted.

Excellent build Brett. Looks to be some good detail in there, and the overall finish is very convincing.
