I need something simple to break me back in to modelling, so for some reason I thought that this would a good start.

So firstly the traditional sprue pictures:

First off the Head:

will need to paint the inside of the mouth and the tongue before assembling it, dry fit shows an awful seam in the mouth that will need some sorting.

Other than a lot of seams that will need sorting rest of kit fell together:

Its feet seem surprisingly undino like.

If I remember right I just filled my gaps with Squadron Green putty, then rubbed it smooth with my finger ( while wet ) just to the top of all the spots/bumps on the skin. Then when dry scrapped away the putty to form the indentations around the spots/bumps.

Great stuff Dom - you can't beat a T- Rex. Latest research shows that they probably had rudimentary feathers - their descendants are busy flying up and down the garden these days.

For the seams, try Deluxe Perfect Putty - it's water based, so can be pushed into the gaps then the excess wiped off with a damp cloth.

Thanks for the advice.

I've got the perfect plastic putty, think when i tried it I was a bit to eager with the damp cloth, and wiped most (ok, probably all) of it off.

I've tried it again, and will try letting it dry a bit more before using the damp cloth.

Peter - think a feathered t-rex might be beyond my skills - but I like the idea

I stippled the tongue with liquid cement to give it a bit of texture, other wise it just looked to smooth:

once its painted i'll build the head and then do the final round of filling and sanding prior to painting. I'm thinking of breaking with the traditional view of T-rex as a green/brown lizard and thinking of going for a gila monster type colouring:

Looking good Dom, love the idea of the Gila monster colouring as well, especially with the black snout...always thought it would be good to do one of these in WW2 German ambush camo...

Funny you should mention that I originally brought the Triceratops with the intention of building something along the lines of this:

Ian, maybe after this one, I know I got as far as making the armor for the dino, before stopping, I think the reason why I stopped was because I couldn't work out how to make the platform fit around the dino.

I remember doing this model when I was a kid. It kept nose diving so my dad filled its tail with air rifles pellets. That sorted it.

Paul, not had that problem yet seems to be fairly stable, will see if that issue comes, if it does I'll drill a small hole in it and squeeze in some liquid gravity.

At least you won't have folks saying: "That colour pattern only applies to adult T Rexes - juveniles were a uniform brown colour until about 5 years old".:smiling3:

Don’t know about that Dave, most armour and aircraft colours get argued about and they are less than 100 years old. What hope is there for something this old....there will be a psuedo paleobiologist somewhere that will disagree, you watch

Dave, I'm with Tim, out there is someone going 'Are you modelling a 60,000 BC t-rex or a 55,000 BC t-rex, because the 55 t-rex was.......' and they'll have colourised cave paintings to back it up..

So this is where I'm at as of today.

Head attached, tongue painted, and inside mouth painted, not that you can see. so Imagine (if you will) the most brilliantly painted tongue it is amazingly life like, now rapidly move to the exact opposite of that and you;re closer to what I have managed to achieve. For the steggy I'm thinking of a colour scheme of something like this:

yup that's a Cayman blue Iguana.
Now this is normally where my blogs peter out on the basis I really dislike painting. but my plan for T-Rex is as follows.

Prime, spray with Tamiya flat flesh, mask and spray gloss black. worry about how to paint reptile eyes, teeth & claws.

Using heavily thinned flat black paint to slowly build up the black colour.

Cannot help thinking that it looks more like:

Will look at making the pink more orange, and then invest in some blue tack to get the right stripey look.
