Afternoon all

Junior and I have just booked for Tankfest on the Sunday following the release of additional tickets last week.

Would be good to meet up with anyone else who is there on that day.

I'll miss you by a day unfortunately. I'm there on the Friday and Saturday, but driving home Saturday night. I only got accommodation for Friday night. Next year maybe... Enjoy it!

Hi John

Was aware of that and understand.

We'll do our best to have a good time.

Going to Bovington was a very last minute thing, after they released additional tickets whilst we away on holiday. We only booked them at the end of August.

We're staying in the edge of Salisbury on the Saturday night... cheapest Premier Inn we could find. So at the suggestion of a colleague we're visiting the Army Flying museum at Middle Wallop on the way down. It's only 20 minutes from the hotel!!

ATB and enjoy the model show.

The Army flying museum is excellent, you’ll love it. I lived in Salisbury for almost my whole life before retiring…..where are you staying? I would say the museum is less than fifteen minutes from town……especially if you are on the North side.

Hi Tim

We're staying on the SE edge of town. Looking at the map there's a turning we can take off the A30 that runs east of town almost straight to the hotel, meaning we don't have to go into town and get caught in traffic on the A30.

It's marginally closer to Bovington than the one on the north of town but the main reason I chose it is that it got much better reviews. Location isn't great but it's a bed for the night..... And of course Junior gets a free breakfast!! We can't check in until 4 to allow for a Covid deep clean, but then the museum shuts at 4:30 so it works out quite well.

I'll make sure I get plenty of pictures.

ATB.

If it’s where I think it is, South Milford, that one’s pretty new Andrew. It was only opened at the start of the pandemic. Location is not great though, it’s on the busy A36 main road to Southampton, but your staying there, not moving in LOL….
Don't bother with the road to the east. It isn’t great, taking you straight through a housing estate with speed humps…. At that time of day traffic will be fine so just follow the main road into Salisbury, then go around the inner ring road to the roundabout by the college with the Southampton A36 turn off. Your motel is about a quarter of a mile along that road just past the roundabout for the Tesco superstore.

That's the one. As you say not the best location but the Tesco will give us the opportunity to top up on a few snacks for Tankfest, plus some fuel too!

Thanks for the tip on the road too. Much appreciated.

Just arrived... Thanks for the tip on the A36, much better than it last time on it .....

As you say not the most picturesque location but it's a bed for the night plus the Tesco was perfect for picking up tomorrow's lunch at the fraction of the price it would have cost at Bovington...... We're also right next door to a Macdonald's, so junior is happy and it's cheap...

Hi Andrew
I think your about an hour and a quarter from Bovington in normal traffic, so I would give yourself about ninety minutes to get there tomorrow…..and make sure you take the right turning as you get near Bovvy or you will end up in Monkeyworld , which is also excellent ;)

Google said it was an hour but I was already going to build in some extra time and besides although the gates open at 10, we're not watching the arena display until the afternoon, as they're duplicating them am & pm to try and keep social distancing....

and of course we have to have a full cooked breakfast first...and a man can only get up so early on a Sunday morning....

......especially after he was up at 7 to take junior to take him to his his football teams match of the season.....

not that I'm complaining that I'm going to Tankfest of course.... Just hope the weather improves. Forecast isn't great for the morning last time I checked.

Weather doesn’t look too bad for the afternoon Andrew, and think of all those muddy weathering reference pictures you’ll be able to get ……
