Hi

I'm looking to make a runway so I can place my models on it to take photos.

For the surface, I'm thinking about using medium grain sandpaper, although if anyone has a better medium which is cheap and easily available which might be better suited please let me know. The reason I initially thought of sandpaper is because I think once the paint has been built up on the surface it would create a nice texture.

My main question is what paint to use ? obviously, it's going to be a matt finish and will be sprayed on using a can since I don't have a spray gun but I'm looking to use a brand which is available in the UK at somewhere like hobbycraft or halfords etc does anyone have an idea what specific colour I would need or any particular type to create a nice tarmac colour.

On a side note, I have tried searching in google with not much joy, when I typed in the search term 'how to make a landing strip for models' the 7th result came up as
"A Guide to Basic Pubic Hairstyles - The Landing Strip"

Any tips or advice welcome

Hi Alex any fine grit wet and dry is already black
Just spray it with matt black and seal with matt varnish then you can weather over the top

Hit the nail on the head, its the perfect colour too and texture, thanks :D

Your local Halfords will sell various grades of the black wet & dry paper - absolutely perfect for tarmac - you can select the best grade to suit the scale you're working at.

I use Tamiya standard filler spread over plasticard. It is just the right color and is slightly uneven.
