I've just got back from delivering daughter No 1 to Birmingham airport, for a school trip to Switzerland.

They've gone to see the Hadron collider at CERN.

Clearly times have changed. The only school trips I ever got was to the sea side or the Zoo.

I wonder what they sell at the CERN gift shop ?..........atoms and particles of all types I suspect !

Never went on any trips until last year a of high school, when my parents had a bit of spare cash I got to go to Switzerland - was first time abroad and it was fantastic. We had to bus it from Fife though haha. Looooonnnggg journey, I'm sure she will have a great time.

We went to Chester Zoo, every year!! Mind you I wonder just how many of the kids know just what a Hadron Collider is actually doing?

CERN Sticks of Rock ....... with "$1 billion per year" running right the way through it......

1 Billion dollars of our taxes .......... To find find a "particle for nanosecond" ..... Absolute value for money, I say ?????? Pish......!!!!!

But I'm sure she'll enjoy it whatever :)

For us it was 'the school hut' in Settle, year in year out. Good though. She will have a great time.

Yes, Chester Zoo was one of my school's favourite location. The memories of that trumping Hippo live with me to this day.

I know where you are coming from Peter, but someone must have thought it was a good idea. In my mind, I suppose these scientists are looking at things that have already happened - a long time ago !
