Hi guys

just finished - well near;y, i have a big if finishing work on the outside of the box, but the modeling is complete.

inspired by the Road to Malaysia and the fun I had building a boxed diorama I decided to combine both with some figures i had in my stash to build a jungle diorama. the idea is thre US soldiers walking down a stream/small river with a couple of Japs hiding in the jungle.

the trees are made of wood and wire covered with putty and filler. The plants are a mixture of plastic aquarium stuff, paper plants and all sorts of odds and sods from the spars box. The background is a photos which I got of the internet (after ages searching) which was not long enough so I used photshop to edit it into a long photo which wraps around the the sides.

here are a couple of in-construction photos:

Hi Guys

thanks for the kind words. It was fun to build. Apart from my beer cellar boxed flats this is my first boxed diorama and I am reasonably happy with it.

I wasn't sure how it would work being in the outside - most boxed dioramas arerooms; a room has four walls and a ceiling making the box very straightforward. Something I think which helps is that the two rear corners are not actually corners, they are curves. i fixed the photo background to some mdf, then using the table saw cut 2 number of vertical cutsin the back of the mdf about 3/4 of the way through it so the mdf could bend into a curve.

i'm fortunate that my other hobby is woodworking so I have the tools to make the box, but B&Q tend to be pretty good about cutting panels of wood to size for anyone who doesn't have a the tools.

well worth having a go.

perhaps a Stug being services in a workshop, an overhead gantry lifting out the gun ... ?

Brings to mind Chef's quote......."never get out of the boat"....... the jungle doesn't like modern humans much as the tiger demonstrated.

This deserves a

Congratulations Peter, There is something special about building a box diorama.
Have to second Pauls " it gives the jungle an oppressive closed in feel "

Cheers guys. Lot's of fun but subtly different to a normal diorama - plus some cabinet making as well.

Excellent Peter, dark, dank, oppressive, and need to look close to catch the ambushies about to pounce!
Cheers Rob

Wow Peter!!! That's the Cat's Meow and The Dog's award all in one. Fantastic work all around Sir and the wood work ain't too shabby either!!! Great overall effect...............

I guess some downlight, filtering through the canopy might add good effect to the splendid diorama.
