discussion The effects of a small mistake

Does anyone hit a wall even over the smaller things? I painted 2 left wings of a star wars fighter the same, rather than 1 left & 1 right.. and it's got me bouncing off the outside of the modelling room door... I have made some spectacular booboos and just got straight back on with it but this one has me with the stuffing knocked out of me!

Anyone else get this?

I'm afraid it happens to the best of us and the only advice is to get back on the horse and get on with it. We've all glued the wrong bit on in the wrong order, painted something the wrong colour or put a transfer in the wrong place, which can't be removed without destroying it, and you don't have a replacement! Yup, we've all done it!

Stay away from sharp objects, don't drive and don't talk to small children until it wears off. If you suspect anyone is trying to supress a smile ignore them or it will end in court.

The sooner you can strip the paint off and at least get back to where you started the sooner you will feel better.

The effects of small, silly mistakes should never be under estimated.

I made a tiny, teeny, itsy bits mistake once. I put the duvet on the bed the wronge way round.

That went down really well with the (now ex-)misses.

Funny you should say mistakes, well i my case it was an accident. A "big" spectacular accident, you know the T-34/85 i've been working on for the group build? Weeeeeell....... the tank is ok but the dio isn't, been working on the base for 3/4 days and put it to one side (a little to close the the edge) on the bench and kind of knocked it off. It's now in the bin and i'm hitting my head against the wall, the wife has just come in with a cuppa then did a runner.

It could be worse. I fixed a bulkhead/wing support into the fuselage of a model with an error of less than 1mm. It was sort of rotated, The wings then wouldn't fit and had the wrong dihedral. I fixed it without destroying the model but it was a lot of work.

Take a breath,take a break and get on with it.

Cheers guys, I appreciate you sharing your incriminating stories lol! I did coolly just get the bleach out and strip it down to the primer. I just need to get the paint mix done again and the base coat on and I'm sure it will get the cogs moving again! Stona that does sound like a proper pain in the rear... I can't imagine where to start with that one!

With this though, it is just a minor paint hiccup, I just need to get in the door to start it off.

Stuart, I shouldn't worry about it. Just take a deep breath while you do all your swearing (preferably just in your head unless you've got your own man-cave!) and repair what's gone wrong. I can't remember building anything where I didn't get something wrong! lol

Talking of deep breaths:

As a college tutor, what should you do if you see a student staggering towards you all covered in blood?

1) Take a deep breath to steady yourself.

2) Step back a pace to give yourself a little more time.

3) Reload ....
