The Longest Yarn is an exhibition showing the history of WW2 through 80 knitted displays. The displays were made by knitting groups from around the country to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of the war. The exhibition has moved around the country and the wife and I went to see it today when it came to Welshpool, not far from where I live.
Very impressive and quite poignant. The hours that must have gone into the work is quite staggering. There were also 8 life sized knitted figures ranging from Bill Millin, who marched up and down the beach on D-Day, playing his bagpipes to Daphne Hedges, a Land Girl rat catcher.

A nice touch is that a lot of the profits from the exhibition go to veteran charities. One is Forces Veterans Afloat. They provide narrow boats as permanent homes for veterans. The idea is that the canals provide a very peaceful living environment for ex service men, which is exactly what they need.
There were volunteer ladies serving tea, coffee and homemade cakes. I felt obliged to check out the cakes thoroughly by sampling them twice
