Ok seeing as no one got every one correct although those that did answer did do well apart from fishing that it :D

Here are the answers

Answers To Quiz:

1. The one sport in which neither the spectators nor the participants know the score or the leader until the contest ends:Boxing.

2. North American landmark constantly moving backward:Niagara Falls ... The rim is worn down about two and a half feet each year because of the millions of gallons of water that rush over it every minute.

3. Only two vegetables that can live to produce on their own for several growing seasons:Asparagus and rhubarb.

4. The fruit with its seeds on the outside: Strawberry.

5. How did the pear get inside the brandy bottle? It grew inside the bottle. The bottles are placed over pear buds when they are small, and are wired in place on the tree. The bottle is left in place for the entire growing season. When the pears are ripe, they are snipped off at the stems.

6. Three English words beginning with dw:Dwarf, dwell and dwindle...

7. Fourteen punctuation marks in English grammar:Period, comma, colon, semicolon, dash, hyphen, apostrophe, question mark, exclamation point, quotation mark, brackets, parenthesis, braces, and ellipses.

8. The only vegetable or fruit never sold frozen, canned, processed, cooked, or in any other form but fresh:Lettuce.

9. Six or more things you can wear on your feet beginning with 'S':Shoes, socks, sandals, sneakers, slippers, skis, skates, snowshoes, stockings, stilts.

Note number 8 says FRESH lettuce :D

Thanks for taking the time to put it together Alan. Some interesting questions, and certainly some interesting answers! I think I could claim five right when I read through them initially so not exactly a stunning performance.

The term parenthesis is a bit confusing because words or figures in brackets are in parenthesis. This is a term used extensively in aviation technical publications usually to identify a part in a technical instruction but particularly in my area of the business in a Service Bulletin.

For example; remove pin (2-100) from the cylinder (2-123); where the numbers in the brackets (parenthisis) refer to the figure and item number of the parts catalogue. It sounds complicated to some but once you get your head around it it is very simple to understand.

Interesting Rick. I had always thought of parenthesis as brackets But on having a little read prompted by your text I found it is something else.

Perenthesis is actually the whole thing ie the brackets and what is inside the brackets. In other words the whole of "the aside". Also found and did not realise that parenthesis does not need brackets it can be dashes, apostrophe or written in italics etc. just to bring attention to the fact that the word sentence or numerals are in parenthesis.

Only taken 75 years to find out that info. Still better late than never (I suppose "if I am honest").

B'ah Pine Berries have their seeds ( fruit ) on the outside also !

Contrary to popular belief, the sweet red flesh of the strawberry is not the fruit. It is a part of the flower called the receptacle that is located below the ovary. The receptacle swells to attract animals so that they will eat and scatter the true fruit. These are the small yellow seed-like parts, which is a dry fruit called an achene.

I think that the person that originated this 'quiz' on the internet should either complete his education, or ask for a refund.

The answers given are "A correct answer" but by no means the definitive.

There are at least eight perennial vegetables. No just the two that they claim.

The one with the Lettuce is also a bit iffy. No fruit or veg sold cooked, frozen or otherwise prepared is fresh. You can get cooked lettuce and as Mr. Kir points out lettuce soup.

I always thought that brackets and parenthesis are the same thing.

Not a dig at you Alan, just the guy that made the quiz.

And fishing is a sport just as any other "pass time" that people compete against each other for a prize. :P
