Have a canopy on the Merlin Helicopter. The roof part is slightly tinted a grey/blue. That is it is still translucent.

Any ideas you have will I am sure be more brilliant than the ones I have tried so far. Problem I found is that the plastic is so shiny it is very difficult to get the paint to stay as it dribbles down to the lowest point.

The problem is you forgot the primer... lol.

Serious now. As you have a good supply of them there canopies, I suggest that you start with giving it a very fine rubbing with some very fine wet and dry, then paint it.

This is on the basis that it is the inside that is getting painted. It should work on the out side as well, but might need a coat of shiny stuff to bring the shine back.

What are you using to tint it Laurie? I used Humbrol clear paint on my two Iroquois overhead windows and it dries evenly without pooling in the corners, using two thin coats.

Had me going for a very fraction of a second Ian. Primer indeed !

Thanks Ian. Sound idea I am putting the coat on the inside. Will try that and report back.

Joe used Humbrol Clear with Vallejo model air tint. Vallejo polyurethane varnish and Model Air. Also Vallejo Glaze Medium. This is the base to add tints. Think all those will work if I adopt Ian's idea of a light dusting up of the surface.

After I coat the canopy with future and mask, I airbrush with one of the Tamiya clear paints such as X-25 clear green etc. If you are looking for blue/grey, suggest you mix some Tamiya X-23 clear blue and some Tamiya smoke X-19. Apply with a very light misting action; less is better than more, you always think you hav'nt put on enough until its too late. I think the solvent based paint adheres better than the water based. Good luck Derek

Thanks Derek for your time that is a good solution. So now to order some Tamiya Clear.

PS a bit worried about the "good" luck bit ;)
