Thanks guys. I was erring towards the navy version as would be a bit more of a challenge regarding the paint scheme. I think progress will be slow but I will get there eventually as have to fit in cardio rehab.

Great to see you back at the bench Vaughan , hope the recovery keeps on going well . The dauntless is looking great , personally i would like to see the army version just for a change , the navy version is nice too but the srmy one is seldom seen or modelled, all the best mate , cheers tony

Tony - I did the Army version, the Banshee, and pics are somewhere in the completed aircraft forum. I would love to see this myself as the Navy version built with Vaughan's usual flair, I do like the three tone scheme and one day I will do one myself, this is just a great kit to build.

I remember seeing yours barry , it was a great build and that was the first time i had seen a banshee , it just looks so different in the green i love it. Cheers tony

A small update I'm going to go for the Navy version which has demarcation lines that will need to be masked. Wings are now attached a small amount of filler was required at the roots although the trailing edge required some plastic and to fill a rather large gap. Horizontal stabilezers are also attached these too are not a great fit and are not flush to the roots. I've decided not to fit the dive brakes in the deployed position although the red will still be visible to a degree.

Thanks guys. Joe I was thinking the same thing! good old Trumpeter they never were good at the spelling. These are the paints I'm going to use insignia blue, intermediate blue and light grey.I found an image of what I think was white 45. Difficult to tell if the camo is the same, the edges do look a little soft so maybe not, you never know how accurate Trumpeter colour schemes are.

Vaughan.


Vallejo have brought out 71.113 for Intermediate Blue and is the closest one they have to that and is correct for the sides after 1942.


For Sea Blue which, post 1942, should be FS35042 you have probaby identified the closest they have.


I am not sure about the underside as up to 1942 it was FS36440. After that, if not white, then FS36118 is a good candidate but I dont remember what the Vallejo versions are for those. You could try their website. When I get home, it will be late, I will try to remember to check my references for you for the Vallejo colour.

I checked my references Obans chart and Vallejo and the 71.091 is correct for No Spec Sea Blue FS35042. The underside though looks as if it should be white according to both sources for 1943. I don't know where Trumpeters Light grey comes from.

Barry thanks for the info it's been really helpful, looks like I will have to get the other version of intermidiate blue that you mentioned. I already have white so that's not a problem.

Still waiting on that intermediate blue from my LMS. Anyway have changed the main under-cart and wheel hubs to white following Barry's advice. Dive brakes have also been painted red the middle section was in fact painted with aluminium lacquer, that includes the area directly above the flap,and not red.

I've picked up this one again, started in 2014, having purchased some montex masks plus national insignia masks too. Will need some advice on how to use the insignia masks as haven't used them before.

I've made a start withe decal masks. A little difficult to get which parts to apply first as is important to follow the correct sequence no instructions were provided by Montex. Anyway with a lot of applying and re applying I think I got there in the end. For me personally i'd rather use good quality decals and mask when needed. There a few areas that need to be touched up I found it difficult to remove the stars and bars without scratching the paint work Maybe it's down to practice.

All insignia bars and stars complete and for my first attempt at using Montex masks they haven't come out too bad. The canopy is a bit of a disappointment when I peeled off the masks it left a lot of adhesive behind which was a sod to remove. Cotton buds soaked in airbrush cleaner removed most. It's great to have pre-cut masks especially when the canopy consists of five parts but the clean up is not fun. I don't know if anybody has had the same experience? Anyway I've completed a clay wash followed by a matt coat. Just the dangly bits to add and we're almost there five years on. :smiling4:
