I haven't had a model for 3 days now and couldn't stand it no longer.

so I have just been to emodels and brought the stryker.

this looks a value for money kit for sure.

24 quid for a trumpeter kit with over 500 parts rubber tyres pe parts and of course trumpeter quality.

I must say the last three models I recently built. a 48 scale stuka a 32 scale junkers bomber and a 32 scale euro copter all by revel have all been poor quality poor fitting kits and as a result they were a little rushed. but having said that I am not a professional modeller and these have been good for practice as they were so cheap. and I found the decals better quality than some of the more expencive kits.

I might embarrass myself and put a few pics on lol.

Im thinking I will try and take my time and get a better more professional finished product and I think I would like to make a small dio to mount it.

but I don't have much idea of how to do it or what scene to set?

I was hoping to buy some more pe detail parts at the same time but theyhad got none in stock.

mail order only... poo.

I think I best do some research now on how to weather it properly and maybe learn how to do a little battle damage

I may post some pics during this build.

if I can take my time with it. im like a kid with a new toy every time I get a new kit then end up rushing it to get on with the next one.

Well Steve. Now you have started a build thread, so now you will have to show us the build.

In a way this alone is a help in slowing you down. Some times.

Either you take your time, stopping to take the pictures and write a bit of text. This also makes you take a bit more care, with each stage AND if you hit a bump you can ask for help...

On the other hand you bang on and have a finished kit and have not taken any photos.... Ops-

Yeah, we need piccies! Sounds a good build with loads of parts to mess up...er...play with ;)

PD: take care with some pieces, not many time ago I built a similar Trumpeter Kit and have some problems to join togheter O_o

Looks very nice Steve no need to rush but pictures along the way would be very nice indeed

goin take me time with this one and try get it right.

im thinking I need a few accessories to complete. but I must think Iraq. sand and dry looking buildings?

but I like the dodgy street idea with a foot patrol walking behing the stryker looking to clear buildings and collect refugees maybe?

any ideas on a dio for the us stryker m1135 are welcome.

I brought the kit cuz I like to make stuff but really don't know how to set it off.

love these looking forward to seeing this come together and never seen them figures before

I like making model kits.

Im very unsure if I like making soldiers of 35 scale.

god there small.

I have had very limited time for a sit down since I brought these.

I had an hour maybe this evening.

so I thought to start the soldiers first.

First mistake.

when I got up this morning I knew I was going to have an hour this evening.

so I took all the soldier bits from the sprues and put them individual piles in preparation.

first bloke.

had 2 left feet? that starts you wondering if you have mixed anything up.

Im not sure what happened but 2 soldiers have 2 left feet.

one hand just completely went missing? im down to 3 soldiers.

im not sure if the kit they have on is correct ?

the phote etch head sets they are wearing were I nightmare.

the hands are impossible to get right?

next time I do (if I ever do) soldiers of this scale I will deffo take one piece of the sprue at a time.

I did enjoy doing a 9th (I think) scale german Luftwaffe ace in oils. and may do the hole collection

Now as I was saying

I feel like I want to rush these scale bods to get on with the main event. the stryker.

but I realise these are part of this and must slow down and get them as good as my ability allows

finished work early with the rain so had a couple of hours spare.

this is the first armoured vehicle I have done for a long time as I have just been practicing my new airbrush skills on planes.

this is the first time ive airbrushed a truck.

Its early days for me as a new modeller taking up an old hobby again.

I started with a white misty coat primer.followed by the spraying your first black coat of weathering.followed by(And I did reaserch on this as ive only seen green ones) a dessert sand base coat and all is looking well.

I did the thinning and adding a drop of white to the base colour to enhance the weathering.

this is where my new skills end and im making it up as I go.

Next I wanted to low light the joint lines and recesses. mmmm.

I have tried certain (the filter washes) for detail but decided I liked the idea of thinning oil paints down to make a wash..

oh dear... it was a little thick and blobs were everywhere..

I then started toninig the panels down a bit with a pale dust colour filter wash and that seemed to look ok.

I was to enthusiastic again to get going again to do any research before I started picking a brush up.

ive already noticed mistakes on the actual build.looking at the pics. like over sanded ovals and a lack of attention on flash removal.

I still have a long way to go with this but please be critical on my build.

Ive only done about a third of the truck using this method yet.and of coarse there is perhaps a little more spraying and more detail.

You're not the only one to mention heavy-handed use in weathering etc. But as I have said to others, the builder is the worse person to view the model as you will always be too critical.

Your model, and I am sure many will agree, looks superb. It is a very busy model, loads of awkward angles, nooks and crannies etc, this can be a nightmare for even experienced modellers as it can be difficult to get washes etc into the right areas etc. The washes themselves have worked well to show a usable vehicle, part of the learning curve is faffing around with chipping, washes, oils etc etc. Probably most members on here will struggle at times with various highlights, washes etc. It depends on the dio it is going on, the type of vehicle etc. So with that waffle out of the way I shall leave you with this: You have already identified some faults in prep work etc, you have highlighted issues regarding washes and thinning etc, so really you are fully aware that modelling can be and is a pain at times, but great fun as you're brilliant model shows. I like this and think you have definitely made a model that looks the part and is also something you can play with, enhance and learn from. I would very pleased to have completed that and have it on my shelves.

wow thanks. I am loving what I am doing. I just cant get enough.

im on a big learning curve.

normally im thinking ahhh another day or two and I can get on with the next one.

now im thinking there could still be a lot of hours here on this very nice kit.

and this is where I start to learn more.

more instalments soon.
